Does iPhone 14 work without the charging coil assembly connected?

I ask this because, after changing the back glass cover of this phone, upon reconnecting the charging coil connector and powering up the repaired phone, it crashes every 4-5 minutes without restart. I have to power it up manually, but the phone shuts down automatically. Before opening it, it worked flawlessly.

So the point here is what I screwed up?

This is what iDevice Panic Analyser says.

And it's likely right, but the phone shuts down also with the charging coil assembly disconnected, so I'm left wondering if the phone needs it to run -> I buy another functioning one

or

The phone has damage in the mainboard and a brand new charging coil does not matter at this point.

I fear the latter is the case, based on experience. Now I can panic like the phone does.

Yes. There is a little sensor that is part of the wireless charge coil that needs to be connected in order for the phone to keep from rebooting.

See also the page I wrote for this specific type of kernel Panic in iPhones. It calls out that the wireless charge coil is the faulty part (or missing sensor in your case).

The only issue here is that, in my recollection not only does the wireless charge coil need to be connected, the sensor it needs to communicate with to prevent this panic needs to be the one from the phones original charge coil (or an OEM one that is capable of being "paired" with Apple's repair assistant tool.

Thanks, still a good news to me. If the issue was on the mainboard that would bring me down a lot, while in this case I feel I can fix this. A new coil is on its way, will see how will I come up for a definitive solution. Thanks again!

Please let us know how it goes! My daughter was trying to replace the back of her iPhone 16 and destroyed the coil. Now the phone is boot looping and she is trying to backup in 1 minute intervals! Not sure how we can pair it at the rate the battery seems to be draining.
