Have you checked the status of the WLAN adapter in Device Manager?

Have you got the [https://www.acer.com/ac/en/ID/content/support-product/6818;-;|latest WLAN drivers], appropriate to your WLAN adapter model installed? (click on driver and then scroll down to find the Wireless LAN (WLAN) driver download)

Since your WiFi connection is not working try connecting via an ethernet cable connection to download the drivers or download them to your brother's computer and then transfer them over using a USB drive.
