HP Pavilion 15-ba003ds Thermal Paste Replacement

Introduction

If your HP Pavillion 15 laptop (ba003ds) is suddenly shutting off and the bottom of the laptop is warm, you can use this guide to replace your thermal paste.

Thermal paste is designed to assist the transfer of heat from your processor to the heatsink, to keep your processor nice and cool. A faulty or old application of thermal paste will have a reduced ability to transfer heat away from your processor, which may cause shutoffs.

Before using this guide, make sure your AC adapter is disconnected and that your battery is removed.

Étape 1 Battery

Unplug the AC adapter from the corresponding socket in the laptop.
Turn off your laptop before starting this procedure. Make sure it's not in sleep or hibernation mode.
Use your fingers to push the slider located just under the battery on either side to unlock the battery from the laptop.
Carefully slide the battery out of the laptop frame and place it somewhere safe.

Remove the two rubber feet next to the battery.

Remove twelve 8mm Phillips #00 screws including two underneath the rubber feet.

Pull out the disc drive by hand.

Use a Jimmy to pry off the black backplate.

Remove four 3mm Phillips #00 screws holding the CPU heatsink in place.

Gently wiggle and remove CPU heatsink.
Do not attempt to pull the heatsink away without having wiggled it, as it may cause damage to your motherboard.
Wiggle while holding the heatink on top of the CPU, not the fan housing.

Generously apply the 99% isopropyl alcohol to your microfiber cloth.
Make sure that the thermal paste is completely wiped away and that the processor is dry
Apply a small pea sized amount of thermal paste to the processor.
Ensure that when you’re wiping away the old thermal paste that none of it falls onto the motherboard beneath it.
