    • Due to the general nature of this guide, specific languages are not covered. The HP UPD supports PCL6, PCL5 and PostScript.

    • Find out what print languages your printer supports. The LaserJet Pro M401 series supports PCL6, PCL5, and PostScript. However, PCL6 is recommended.

    • If you use USB, plug your printer in.

  2. (Windows) Installing a HP LaserJet Printer using the HP UPD, Download the best HP UPD driver: étape 2, image 1 de 2 (Windows) Installing a HP LaserJet Printer using the HP UPD, Download the best HP UPD driver: étape 2, image 2 de 2
    • I knew what my printer used in advance. Yours may have minor variations.

    • Once you know what print language(s) your printer supports, download the best one for your printer. The driver can be found on the HP website.

  3. (Windows) Installing a HP LaserJet Printer using the HP UPD, Driver installation (USB): étape 3, image 1 de 3 (Windows) Installing a HP LaserJet Printer using the HP UPD, Driver installation (USB): étape 3, image 2 de 3 (Windows) Installing a HP LaserJet Printer using the HP UPD, Driver installation (USB): étape 3, image 3 de 3
    • This method copies the UPD files onto your computer. If you connect a new printer and don't install the printer-specific driver, this can be used in place of the model specific driver.

    • At the installation screen, select USB mode- Plug and Play.

    • Once you select the mode, pick the options you wish to use. While these settings can be changed, leave it as-is unless you understand what the change does.

    • Click Next and the files will be copied to your computer.

    • This installation method only works with networked printers. USB IS NOT SUPPORTED.

    • After the driver loads, agree to the license.

    • Once you agree to the license, you will be asked which installation mode you want to use. Select Dynamic Mode and click Next.

    • After selecting Dynamic Mode, click Next. The printer driver will be installed, as well as a universal printer.

    • Once the driver is installed, a static IP address is required, as well as manual driver configuration. The printer is configured via IP address with this setup.

    • ITERIM PRE-REVISION NOTE FOR WINDOWS 10/11 USERS: You must use the legacy control panel for this step (and the next step), not the modern "settings" app. Search "Control panel" in the start menu.

    • Manual configuration is required when using the HP UPD to replace a failing legacy driver. HOWEVER, these printers often use "USB_001" or "DOT4" on really old printers and must be setup properly. If "USB_001" fails, your printer is really old and requires "DOT4".

    • Known "DOT4" printers: LaserJet 1012, LaserJet 1200, others of similar age.

    • Find Devices and Printers. The location varies based on what version of Windows you run. Search for Control panel and find Devices and Printers.

    • Click Add a Printer. Select Add a Local printer if your printer uses USB. If networked, select Add a Network, Wireless or Bluetooth printer.

    • Allow your computer to populate the driver list. Find HP and then locate the driver that says HP Universal Printing (PCL6/PCL5/PostScript). Select the driver and click Next.

    • Name your printer, then click Next.

  6. • After the printer is installed, print a test page to make sure it works. Click Print a test page and make sure it works.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

I bought an HP printer specified by laserjet. I have followed a few steps to install this printer via HP UPD. at first search for the correct driver, then install it first in a USB mode after that in dynamic mode. then set the configuration pf printer and after completing all the steps just print once for a test.
