Introduction

The lens may be cracked, dirty, or just need to be replaced. This guide is a difficult guide which involves removing many elements of the camera and soldering to reach the lens.

  1. Remove the 4 mm screw directly to the right of the viewfinder on the back side of the camera using a Phillips #00 screwdriver. Remove the five 3 mm screws from the bottom of the camera using a Phillips #00 screwdriver. Remove the 3 mm screw from the right side panel using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.
    • Remove the 4 mm screw directly to the right of the viewfinder on the back side of the camera using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

    • Remove the five 3 mm screws from the bottom of the camera using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

    • Remove the 3 mm screw from the right side panel using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

    • Remove the two 2 mm screws from the left side panel using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

  2. Rock the two ribbon cables gently out of their sockets. For more on disconnecting ribbon cables, look here. Grasp and pull the white cable out of its clip with metal tweezers.

    • Grasp and pull the white cable out of its clip with metal tweezers.

    • Remove the back panel completely.

  3. Peel off the black plastic sheets.
    • Peel off the black plastic sheets.

    • Remove the two 3 mm screws holding the motherboard in place using the Phillips #00 screwdriver.

  4. Remove one ribbon cable directly below the viewfinder. Detach the white plastic clip from its socket with a pair of tweezers.
    • Remove one ribbon cable directly below the viewfinder.

    • Disconnect the ribbon cable from the center of the board, near the central hole.

    • Disconnect three ribbon cables from the top right of the motherboard, near the selector wheel. One is on the top of the board, and two are on the underside.

  5. Remove the single 3 mm ground screw attached to the right side of the camera body using the Phillips #00 screwdriver.

  6. Use the soldering iron to desolder the connections from the motherboard.

    • Don't attempt to desolder the joints without previous knowledge of soldering.

    • When soldering, avoid touching any of the other components with the soldering iron by accident. You may damage them.

  7. Remove the motherboard from the camera.
    • Remove the motherboard from the camera.

  8. Now we remove the bulk of the cameras components from the front of the case. Unscrew the 2-3mm Screws from the right side of the casing
    • Now we remove the bulk of the cameras components from the front of the case.

    • Unscrew the 2-3mm Screws from the right side of the casing

    • Pop the flash up, to get access to the two body screws underneath

    • Undo the 2-3mm screws

  9. Gently pull on the battery casing and the A/V ports to remove the connected components Remove the small ribbon cable from the right side of the casing Remove the small ribbon cable from the right side of the casing
    • Gently pull on the battery casing and the A/V ports to remove the connected components

    • Remove the small ribbon cable from the right side of the casing

  10. Remove the lens assembly from front casing of the body Undo the 3 flat top 4mm screws
    • Remove the lens assembly from front casing of the body

    • Undo the 3 flat top 4mm screws

    • The lens can now be gently pulled away from the camera body

    • The lens can now we replaced or cleaned
