The Computer Will Not Power On

The laptop will not respond, has a black screen, or shows no sign of powering up.

Faulty Screen

Press the power button on the device. If the device still does not power on, check if the device is fully charged. If the device is on, but the screen remains blank, the screen may need to be replaced. In order to do so, follow the Lenovo Thinkpad X100e Screen Replacement Guide.

Faulty Battery

The laptop will no longer stay turned on while unplugged, despite being charged for a reasonable amount of time. This is usually the result of of an old or defective battery. In this case, replacement of the battery is necessary. Follow the Lenovo Thinkpad X100e Battery Replacement guide.

Keyboard Not Working

The device is unresponsive, broken, or has sticky keys.

Unresponsive Keyboard

When trying to type, the keyboard may not work. This may be due to faulty wiring, or perhaps the keyboard has been disconnected. In this case, removing the keyboard and checking the blue ribbon wire is connected will be necessary. If this is not the cause of the issue then replacing the keyboard will be necessary. Follow the Lenovo Thinkpad X100e Keyboard Replacement guide.

Keys Stuck In Place

When trying to type, a key may feel stiff or possibly stuck down to the keyboard. This may be due to dust and debris getting caught underneath the keys. In this case, using a can of pressurized air to blow dust/debris out from underneath the keys will work. If this is not the root of the issue, use the iFixit Spudger Tool to pry the key up. For instructions follow the Lenovo Thinkpad X100e Keyboard Replacement guide.

The device feels hot to the touch, and may suddenly shut down.

The Fan May Need to be Cleaned

The device’s fan may need to be cleaned. A dirty fan will not perform as it is intended, and it may be obvious by the abnormal volume of the fan. To clean the fan, follow the first 6 steps of the Lenovo Thinkpad X100e Fan Replacement Guide.

Replace the CPU Cooling Fan

If the abnormal volume of the fan persists after being cleaned, you may need to replace the fan entirely. To replace the fan, follow theLenovo Thinkpad X100e Fan Replacement Guide.
