starting to fix some old favorite MacBooks around the house

first iFixit project: replaced a fan in a 2006 MacBook 1,1 and a dead battery in the same 2006 MacBook. now i feel like i'm ready to learn how to replace the display. and upgrade the 350GB HD to 5400rpm or 7200rpm or 10000rpm 2TB HD or SSHD or SSD. still not electronically sure about what an 85W power cord charger will do that a 60W power cord charger will not do to a 2006 MacBook 1,1

Mon problème

Fan not working, making a lot of noise, and laptop shutting down due to over heating.

Thanks to the step by step guide, the repair was pretty simple and straight forward. Would never have known which screws to remove if not for the guide!

Just reiterating another user...print out the guide and tape the screws to the pictures where the screws go! No guessing when putting back together.

Mon problème

The MacBook worked OK until anything like streaming a video shut it down.

It was obvious that overheating caused the temperature sensor to shut it down.

And there was no sound of the fan, so I ordered the fan to repair it.

Ma solution

The repair went easily since I had been familiar with MacBook computers in the past.

The job took 2 hours with no problems.

In future, I'll take some pitches to share with others in the iFixit community.

Given the curiously to watch people working on anything like cars & equipment of course lead me to tear into things myself. While I worked on almost everything else, computers have only been in recent 20 years.

When I discovered iFixit, the step by step guides were the invaluable tool for the repair.

So if one has the "do it yourself" motive, sharing information with others is essential.

For over a year, my 2007 MacBook has been overheating and displaying a black screen with a bunch of mumbo jumbo text, and all I could do was force shut down. It would not last a second trying to watch a youtube video. I found this site and the videos made it seem so easy to repair a fan. Since it was so cheap, I thought I'd give it a try. Fixing my own computer never crossed my mind. But I had nothing to lose, really.

Ma solution

I followed the photo guide posted with the part on this site. I followed it to the T. There was a little hesitation prying the keyboard ribbon, but I looked over to another video to find exactly which direction i needed to shove the spudger. It was easy-peasy, my computer doesnt shut down anymore. It still gets pretty warm. It's a whole new world, and I am ready to replace another part, on another computer, as long as I have the guide and the tools from ifixit. It's really been empowering. Just don't ask me to write up a software program.

Definitely buy all the parts or tools that are suggested on the site. It's a really great guide. I had the image tutorial up and the video tutorial (on how to open up the computer). Both were useful.

2007 MacBook (original) fan was getting noisy and I was afraid of fan failure

Ma solution

The repair went GREAT! Instructions were easy to follow, and though I was a bit nervous about opening my laptop I even got it all back together without any screws still in hand.

The new fan fan works flawlessly and my MacBook is humming along quietly now.

From each step of the instructions I put the set of screws in a small paper cup, so as not to mix up the screws and how they should be put back. It worked out well for me.

Mon problème

I have an old MacBook that lives in my server closet that provides three AppleTVs and all of our various iDevices with Video/Music. The fan was on its last leg and sounded like a monster was trying to escape the laptop with a hammer.

Der Cooler wurde zuerst nur laut, dann war das Geräusch zu Lärm geworden. Ein Austauschdes des Coolers, nach 7 Jahren Lebensdauer war notwendig.

Ma solution

Die Anleitung von iFixit machte die Arbeit sehr leicht. Nach einer knappen Stunde war alles erledigt und funktionierte. Nur die Tastatur wollte nicht mehr. Erneutes Öffnen entsprechend Anleitung um zu kontrollieren ob der Stecker richtig plaziert ist. alles o.k. - Zusammenbau - Auch der Ein/Auschalter funktioniert nicht mehr.Erneut Öffnen und dieses mal auch eines anderen MacBook um die Tastatur des anderen zum Einschalten zu benutzen. Jetzt benutze ich eine alte USB-Tastatur, nur kann man mit dieser das Macbook nicht einschalten also darf ich niemals abschalten.

Mon conseil

Um die vielen kleinen Schrauben in der richtigen Reihenfolge für die Montage aufzubewahren, habe ich sie auf einem Klebeband (Tesafilm) abgelegt.
