== Contexte et identification ==

La carte mère est le circuit imprimé principal d'un appareil électronique qui comprend un ou plusieurs circuits (PCB). Elle facilite habituellement la communication entre les différents composants de l'appareil, reçoit les données entrantes des périphériques via le processeur, ou CPU, les traite et les transmet aux haut-parleurs, moteurs, écrans et autres composants susceptibles de les utiliser. Dans quelques ordinateurs, il est possible de brancher le processeur directement sur la carte mère avec un interface à plusieurs broches. Cependant, les ordinateurs plus récents l'intègrent à la carte mère et il est donc plus difficile de le retirer.

Le processeur (ou unité centrale de traitement) est le circuit électronique responsable du traitement des données entrantes. Il est capable de résoudre des problèmes mathématiques et logiques basiques selon les instructions établies par le programme. Il agit habituellement de concert avec la RAM ou mémoire vive, afin d'accéder rapidement aux données nécessaires pour un traitement efficace et évitant le problème de l'étranglement du transfert des données. Les processeurs se reconnaissent à leur forme carrée et les broches qui dépassent d'un côté s'il est amovible.
