L'iPhone 3GS fut le premier iPhone capable d'enregistrer des vidéos. L'iPhone 3GS dispose d'une coque arrière noire ou blanche, d'une bordure argentée et d'un devant noir. L'iPhone 3GS a été introduit avec une mémoire flash de 16 ou 32 Go.

Certaines parties sont plus difficiles à réparer que d'autres. Le panneau d'écran et la vitre sont relativement faciles à réparer, mais accéder à la batterie ou au panneau arrière peut demander du temps et des efforts. Ceci est dû au design du 3GS. Il est construit de l'avant vers l'arrière, donc plus un composant se trouve vers l'arrière (par exemple la coque arrière), plus il est difficile à réparer.
