== Identification ==

The iPod Mini (trademarked, marketed and stylized as the iPod mini) was a digital audio player designed and marketed by Apple Inc. It was the midrange model in Apple's iPod product line. It was announced on January 6, 2004 and released on February 20 of the same year. A second-generation version was announced on February 23, 2005 and released later that year. The iPod Mini line was officially discontinued on September 7, 2005 and was replaced by the iPod Nano line.

The iPod Mini uses the touch-sensitive scroll wheel of the third generation iPod. However, instead of the four touch buttons located above the wheel, the buttons were redesigned as mechanical switches beneath the wheel itself—hence the name click wheel. To use one of the four buttons, the user must physically push the edge of the wheel inward over one of the four labels. Like its predecessors, the wheel was developed for Apple by Synaptics. The click wheel is now also used in the fourth, fifth and sixth generation iPods and the iPod Nano, from first generation through the fifth; however, in the Nano and 5G iPods onwards, the click wheel is developed by Apple.

L'iPod Mini (marque déposée, commercialisée et stylisée avec l'orthographe iPod mini) est un lecteur audio numérique conçu et commercialisé par Apple Inc. Il s'agit du modèle milieu de gamme parmi les iPod d'Apple. Il est annoncé le 6 janvier 2004 et lancé le 20 février de la même année. La deuxième version est annoncée le 23 février 2005 et mise sur le marché au cours de l'année. La gamme iPod Mini n'est officiellement plus vendue depuis le 7 septembre 2005 et la gamme iPod Nano l'a remplacée.

L'iPod Mini reprend la molette tactile de défilement de l'iPod de troisième génération. Cependant, au lieu des quatre boutons qui se trouvaient sur la roue, les boutons ont été redessinés et intégrés sous la molette – d'où le nom molette cliquable. Pour actionner un des quatre boutons, l'utilisateur doit pousser le bord de la roue vers l'intérieur en appuyant sur un des quatre symboles. Comme ses prédécesseures, la roue a été développée par Apple pour Synaptics. On retrouve la roue cliquable sur les iPod de quatrième, cinquième et sixième génération et sur les iPod Nano, de la première à la cinquième génération ; cependant c'est Apple qui a développé la roue à partir de l'iPod Nano et du 5ème génération.

Les deux générations d'iPod Mini sont presque identiques d'apparence, à l'extérieur comme à l'intérieur. Ils utilisent cependant des composants internes légèrement différents.
