sounds not working anymore

so i was using my mac book pro and i had headphones plugged in and once i unplugged them i didn't have anymore sound. i check the port and there is this red light that glows. so i did some research but from what i found it says i need to replace my logic board. Is there anyway to fix this without having to replace the logic board? i have a warranty on the mac book but if there is a fix for it where i dont have to replace any parts i would prefer to do that.

If your system still under warranty bring it into an Apple Store for repairs. Don't waste your free get out of jail card ;-}

Thank you for the advice Dan. I was wondering if there is any other way because i work at a computer repair shop and it would be to nice to know a few tricks before buying a whole new logic board for it. I am currently having this problem but if a customer came in it would be nice to fix it on the spot if it was possible. Im going to try the toothpick switch solution you put in the comments but im going to bring it in for repairs

The red light that is glowing is the optical out signal, it is not an indication that anything is necessarily wrong with your logic board.

I hate to ask, but have you restarted the computer to see if that has resolved the issue? From what you described it could just be a software hiccup that could be resolved from a restart.

If that doesn't work you could try a PRAM/SMC reset.

Most likely the port has become damaged by the plug. Some people have managed to use a toothpick to reset the switch. But, often once the switch is damaged it's best to replace the logic board. In this case he's under warranty so its a free deal for him.
