Video socket pin repair (pins vaporized due to liquid short)

Block Image

I'm working on a friend's late 2010 Macbook Air that's had liquid spilled on it. Some of the pins coming out of the logic board to the video socket have melted away due to presumably shorting out from the water.

I've successfully run the system on an external monitor and the rest of the system seems to work OK.

I've attached an image. It's the best shot I can get with the cameras I have access to.

Any chance fixing these pin(s) is a DYI job, or do I have to send it somewhere. If I have to send it somewhere, does anyone have a reputable shop? Is a replacement board a better idea?

Thanks!

Brian Davis, looks like a standard i-Pex connector. Only you know if you can fix it, that will depend on your soldering abilities and your tools. It is absolutely doable with the right skills and tools. the connectors are usually around $2.00 and may be you can find somebody local that would do the soldering for you. Once you know, I can most certainly supply you with the right connector part number and source. Hope this helps, good luck.

The LVDS cable connector may also be damaged and should be inspected.

OK, I have some folks that should be able to solder it for me. Which connector would I need and where would I get it?

The board has 820-3023-A stamped on it.

1: I dont see an image. 2: New logic board. You can replace it yourself.

I recommend the 4 GB logic board, but if you don't have a ton of money, you could get the 2.
