Diode or transistor fell off.

Hello everyone. Let me start by thanking you for your help in advance.

A friend of mine had opened his MacBook for cleaning, and for some reason the part in the yellow circle had fallen off of the motherboard. Now the laptop doesn't even wanna turn on.

Is there anyway someone can tell us the exact number of that diode/transistor? Or if there is anyway it can be bypassed? A picture would be very helpful. Thanks again.

Here's a better picture of the logic board where the component came from Image from Logic Board Replacement Guide

Mohammed Afnan, by covering up the numbers, you make it difficult to establish exactly what logic board number this is. @Dan, thanks this will help.

Thank you, Dan. It's the one around the right top corner of the RAM with number 330

Looking at both your image and the IFIXIT image it appears to be an inductor and labeled 330. Looking at the schematic for this system I do find an inductor L7760 10UH-0.55A-330MOHM.

@Dan, 330 is the 3-digit identification on a surface-mount inductor. It means the figure "33"in Henry's and "0" trailing zero's, hence 33UH. The L7760 would bear the marking "100"

OT - I just copied it from the schematic as it was presented ;-} My EE schooling years ago taught me all about RTL, DTL & TTL logic. Got into CMOS and early SMD stuff on my own & early employment. Today, I mostly swap parts, as most in-house techs do. At home I'll do some simple stuff with an iron.

Dan, no harm no foul. I totally understand what you are saying. all this is just a hobby for me so I try to stay up with all the new developments. Personally I love tubes and "big" components, that small stuff needs all kinds of small tools and meters ;-) expensive hobby.

Gentlemen, thank you so much for your help. I've tried to find the same exact inductor with no luck. What are my options (if any)? Thank you.

Mohammed Afnan, that is reference designator L6995. It is a series D52LC-SM 33UH 20% 0.44A 0.455OHM fixed inductor. Check Jameco.com, Mouser.com or Digikey.com and others for availability.

Thank you oldturkey03 & Dan for taking the the time to look at the images. Where can i find this inductor 330? Or is there anyway i can bypass it? Or any workaround in order for us to get the laptop going? Thanks.

par

You can not bypass this. it is a "critical" component. Try the above links or any other online electronics place. Depends on where you are located.

par

Check on here http://uk.mouser.com/Passive-Components/... something like this should work or any of these. Just match the package size closely.

par

Thank you both for your help. My friend had placed the order last night, and I'll let you know the results.
