For the audio issue, go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services and scroll down until you find the "Windows Audio" service. Make sure that this service is started and that the "Start Up Type" is set to Automatic. You may have to restart the computer for this to take effect.
If this does not solve your issue, then your audio driver may be corrupt or missing. Go to Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices. Click on the Hardware tab and see if your audio card is listed. If the audio card is not listed, then go to Control Panel/Add Hardware and install it. If the audio card is listed, use your mouse and select it and then click on the Properties tab down below. In the Properties window, click on the Driver tab and see if the audio driver is installed. If there is no driver, you can click the Update Driver tab and see if it installs. If the driver does not install, it is recommended that you then go to the computer manufacturer's web site and download the correct audio driver from their support section.
NOTE: Some support sites will auto-detect your machine and lead you to the appropriate drivers. Other sites will ask you to download a small file that will help the site identify your machine or the site will ask you to enter your service tag number or serial number of the machine. Whether you manually enter your computer's serial number, service tag or use these automated services, your goal is to find the exact audio driver for your specific computer model.
If you cannot see the USB Controllers in Device Manager, then go to Control Panel/Add Hardware and see if you are able to use the wizard to see the Controller hardware and add it. Once you add the hardware, you will need to install the driver by following the same instructions listed above for either using the Update Driver tab or installing the driver from the computer manufacturer's web site's support section.
I use Windows XP Pro. If you use a different version of Windows, some items and locations may be labeled differently or found in a different area than listed above. Be patient and ask Google for help if this is the case with your operating system.
