Aged mother poured water into the coffee bean grate, will it recover?

She poured ~2 1/2 cups water. I've got every possible hatch open and have used lots of paper towels in the inside, and a rack underneath for air circulation. Can the machine survive this? Can the wires/motor withstand having been drenched? I'm afraid to plug it back in.

Plugged it in, heated fine, released the heated rinse water fine - then made a unfamiliar noise (when it should have been grinding beans) said 'fill beans' (which were full) and then reset to 'ready' -- all without dispensing any coffee. So the grind/tamp is messed up somehow. What do?!

What did you end up doing? My machine is doing this!

Take out the grinder. Good chance to clean it. If it's old, maybe replace the burrs while at it. Wash everything and reassemble. Hope it works.

You'll see if there's any suspect water when you open it. But definitely running it in this condition was abad idea.

No fear. you can fix it.

If the machine is dry again, The electronics might be okay. the problem now is the conical grinding disks (or burrs) the rims are filled with wet coffee ground. and the grinder will not grind anymore. the grinder motor notices not enough resistance and the computer says "no beans" in the display. you have to open the machine, find the grinder, don't remove the grinder, only unscrew the top of the grinder (the part that adjusts the coarseness of the grind). lift out the top burr (leave the bottom one in place) and you will see they are filled with coffee sludge. gently clean the rims with a wooden tooth pick or so and check if the shoot that delivers the ground coffee to the brew unit is clean and not blocked. now put it back together again and it will work again.
