* The radio fuse look like not working

I have 2006 toyota corolla and my radio and cigarette lighter will go out sometimes at random. It even has cut out before for a few days and then while driving the radio started turning on and off multiple times. I only have changed the 15amp CIG fuse and it has fixed the issue every time but still continues to blow at random. I didn't know that the one in the “rear console box" in between the driver and passenger seats was connected to the CIG 15amp fuse for the radio. So I'm guessing my problem is somewhere from the wiring from the cigarette lighter/radio to the P/Point 15amp fuse in the “rear console box"… Anyone have any advice or can tell me if I might be correct.

Pedantically three fuses control power to both the front cigarette lighter socket and audio unit in a stock 2003 Toyota Corolla:

ALT (100A, engine bay) - serves as a fuse for a number of other fuses, including AM1.

AM1 (25A, interior) - serves as a fuse for the CIG fuse.

CIG (15A, interior) - serves as a fuse for the front cigarette lighter socket/power connector, audio unit, clock, power rear view mirror controls and shift lock control system.

If any one of those fuses fail none of the 'CIG' devices will work. (And conversely, if any 'CIG' device still works you can safely assume none of those fuses have failed).

A related fuse is P/POINT (15A, interior) which is apparently only used on models featuring a "power outlet in the rear console box". While this fuse doesn't appear to directly protect any device covered by CIG some sources suggest P/POINT is linked to AM1 (in which case a flakey something connected to the 'P/POINT' socket could still indirectly cause the the front socket/radio to stop working).

Hi @picnic66 ,

I've reopened your comment and answer(s) (deleted the duplicates though) and restored your deducted Reputation points.

Sometimes the website's iRobot gets a bit overzealous when there are lots of numbers, capital letters etc in a Question, Answer or Comment and automatically deletes it as it "thinks" that it is spam.

I'll advise the website's admin about this so hopefully they can tweak the iRobot's program settings a bit more to prevent it from happening.

Don't let this put you off making more very helpful contributions to this site in the future.

If it happens to you again, go here and ask why this occurred to what you have tried to post. This is the main website for ifixit and the admin monitor this site for anything that isn't covered by the general Answers Forum that this is here.

Cheers.

Hi Sombo Pok. In that case you'd check the fuse labelled AM1 (25A) which serves as a fuse for CIG (15A) (and possibly also for P/POINT). The precise location of that fuse in your vehicle should be printed on the fuse box cover (fuse box layouts evidently differ depending on market/model but the label meanings appear to be relatively constant).

Sambo Pok did you end up fixing it? My cig lighter works and the fuse is good but I cant find the solution. To get my radio and my clocked turned back on.

You will need to gain access to the clock and the radio and check for proper power and ground at the wiring. It is ok to hotwire these items by jumping 12 volts to the proper wire to see if they turn on, then you will know which wire may be broken or which connector has come lose or corroded. Maybe one of the others can give a schematic for the individual items also please.

your problem here seems like a bad connection on the circuit board on the Cluster, have it looked at for poor solder contacts, you will need a magnifying glass to see them

For future reference, the fuse you were after is labelled GAUGE (a 10A fuse in the interior fuse box; check your fuse box cover for the exact location). Along with the gauges and meters on the dashboard that fuse also protects the air conditioning system, rear window defogger, reversing lights and front passenger’s seat belt reminder light, so if your dash gauges don't work but any one of those other devices do your vehicle likely has a deeper problem than a blown fuse.

(Btw, if you've also lost your instrument panel/cluster lights the not so obvious fuse to check is labelled TAIL - 15A, interior fuse box. Again, you can do that check indirectly simply by seeing if your tail lights (or licence plate light) still work.)

The radio and cigarette lighter have different fuses.

Radio: (dome in the hood's fuse box, while inside fuse box is: radio)

Cigarette lighter: cig
