Water Damage MacBook Pro

Hello, can I please get specific instructions on removing water/cleaning water damage from the inside of my MBP? I spilled water onto my keyboard by accident, I would like to learn how to fix it. Pictures would be appreciated. Thanks.

Please tell us about the spill. What was it, how did it enter, how much, did it get to the logic board.

it was water. it was not a very big amount, i think it mostly went through the keyboard? i wasnt wearing my glasses and the light was not on at the time. i dont know if it got into the logic board. thanks for replying. i dried the keyboard with a towel and opened up the back cover and dried the visible water there.

Hi! I know how bad it can be to have water damage on a MacBook. I am no expert, but I can give you some basic guidelines as to checking and repairing water damage. Assuming you have a pent alone screwdriver, you'll want to take off the bottom case of the MacBook. I recommend iFixit's guide for this. I would then use the visual test to check for water damage. Finding the damage is one thing, but repairing it is another. To get a better idea of what's wrong, was your Mac powered on when water was spilled on it?

thank you for the information. i have open up the back cover and clean the water there. the laptop was not turned on when i spilled the water. i can force the laptop to start by (im not sure what it is called, but it is a square/rectangular shape close to the battery.) by moving the rectangular shape out and putting it back it. when i force the power to turn on like this, the fans get a lot louder than before the accident. is there a problem here? what was the visual test you were talking about?

Sorry! It's been a long time. This is probably too late, but just look around the int side of the Mac, and check for water. I would then let it sit and dry out.

Jake don't just let it dry out clean the affected area with distilled water or isopropal alcohol to prevent corrosion on the logic board. when the board dries out it corrodes and the corroded points are what end up shorting out the board and causing the most damage
