Do I REALLY need the T8 Torx Security Bit Screwdriver?

Do I REALLY need the T8 Torx Security Bit Screwdriver or will a standard T8 get the job done? Replacing the HD with an SSD.

Only the newer Mac mini requires the Torx T8 security bit driver as Apple altered things. Your Mid 2010 does not need it.

No a regular T8 won't work, unless you bust the center pin out in the TT8 screw. A better way to do it is to get a small flat head, one that will fit across two points. To clarify, there are 6 points in the Torx star. Lets number them 1,2,3...and so on clockwise. You want the flat head to fit between points 1 and 3, sliding just above the tamper pin. Without a TT8 bit, this is the best way to remove the screws without messing them up.

  • Sorry didn't realize it was a 2010, so Dan is right you don't need a TT8 for that one, just the newer models.
