Yes, a 2.5" SSD will work here (any manufactures).

But before you make the jump how about doing some house cleaning of your HD to regain its speed. Over time old cache & log files build slowing down the system, give this app a try: Disk Doctor from the Apps Store.

Make a good backup of all of your stuff then see if you can free up 1/4 - 1/3 of your drive. The last two steps require a bootable external drive (a USB thumb drive will work). Bootup under the thumb drive and run Disk Utility repair the Permissions & Disk. Then you'll need to defrag the drive, I like this app: Drive Genius Pro there are others. After doing all of this your drive will have all of the zip it once had!

You'll still want do to this even if you do decide to go with a SSD as you'll want to transfer your apps and data to your SSD so having it clean & healthy will improve things.

You may also want to think about swapping out your optical drive for the SSD. Here's the IFIXIT guide to do that and the needed holder: Installing Mac Mini Mid 2010 Dual Hard Drive. That way you hang onto the deep storage of your HD and gain the speed of the SSD as well.

If you can replace the hdd for a hybrid you must be able to use a scandisk ssd ... that's what I think.

What is this BS on using "scandisk ssd" which is Microsoft software on a Mac disk? Since when does an Apple require Microsoft to do anything?

It's best using an SSD. Hybriddrives are slower than an SSD, but they have more capacity than a normal SSD, and it's better for the price. SSD's is more likely to be more stable, and more robust if u drop it, or shake it.

The Hybrid's is like a HDD, but with an SSD built into it. Hybrid's, and HDD both have movement built into, and theres a small pin (the arm) there are writing on the spinning discs, and if they get out of control, if u drop it, or shake it, it will scratch the disc, and maybe get stuck.

An SSD has no movement at all. And after it's a mac mini, i think u are going to move around with it.

Good luck with it, and happy repairing.

Greetings, Rasmus
