kaushik what exact model is your TV?

par

I had the same problem. Did all the simple fixes to no avail. Then I tried tapping the back of the TV and it has been good for a while now. Maybe loose wire or something but worth a try.

par

Kaushik, you have a bad power supply board. Find your part at buyqual.com as I did fixed mine 2 days ago it was doing the exact same thing.

par

I had this problem after not using me TV for a few weeks...I had my Xbox one plugged into hdmi 2 .Played all night with no problems. The next morning I ran into this problem here being discussed.I tried many things but what worked was me unplugging the hdmi cable.I had noticed that the TV kept a lot of residual energy while it's plugged in...Now I unplug it each time after using and ONLY plug it in now AFTER powering on my TV...

par

I did what Chris said ,and my wife named in the back lightly and walla its working again!! Thanks Cris!!

Take a look at this.

4 red blinks- can be LD board or main logic board, check inverter board wires for arcing to ground

6 red flashes- backlight issue, bad main board, or power board or inverter boards- check standby volts on power board. "backlight on" volts should be 3-5v from main logic board then 24v to inverter

Hi Johnny. I'm debugging a kdl46w4100. Initially I replaced the power board because I was not getting standby 3.3V. Now I have 3.3V standby so I'm passed that and so now I have the 6 red flashes. I can see on the connector coming from the main logic board to the power board that the "backlight on" signal goes to 1.8v but not to 3.3. The HV lines (wrapped in double heat shrink) going to the inverter board) never go to 24v - they never do anything. My guess is that the main logic board is not properly telling the power board to send the HV to the inverter board. Ideas? Thanks!

I found that if I opened my KD-55X8509C

Bravia 4k 2015 tv and with power off and disconnected. Took all the connections off the boards and reattached them it solved the problem, I think is just a bad connection sometimes due to heat, never had the problem since

The 6 red blink code on Sony is usually a fail safe on the main board for plasmas... Usually set off by power surges brown outs and dirty electricity, this is done to prevent fires and further component damage so the customer will send the unit into Sony to get its components checked. This is a unique feature for Sony plasmas as they are carrying a high amount of electricity. Google or YouTube Sony Bravia reset. You will need a compatible Sony remote to perform the reset. I have fixed 3 2012 models and one 2011 from the 6 blink code using this method and 3 of those units have been functioning great after 6 months. A lot of repair shops easily misdiagnose it as a power board issue... Guess they don't know how to use google. And there is usually nothing physically wrong with 6 blink tvs it's just Sony trying to cover their ass at the time so there was not a recall since they were losing money on production when the units came out, similar to the PS3. hope this helps you all out ifixit community. - Brandon

Brandon, My Sony 46 inch XBR has a disheartening condition. When plugged in it tries to start - by powering on and the Sony logo at the front bottom of the TV lights up. I've replaced the backlight board and the power board but no luck. Could it be the main board NOT TELLING the rest of the unit what/how to fire up?

How do I get another Main board.

par

I neglected to state that after it tries to power up after about 10 seconds an a few clicking sounds, the Sony logo light goes off and the Standby light begins flashing 6 times, repeating.

par

Mine was the power supply board did the same as you are describing, replaced the power supply board and Wallah TV was working again

par

Most of the time it is the back light. If you want these TV 's to last turn back light setting down to 0. Will look a little dark for a while till you get used to it but no problem for 8 months after I did it. I had back light fixed twice in one month. Lucky it was under warranty. Keeps the heat down. Originally had it on full blast looked very bright.

par

I'm getting the light also 6 flashes. I unplug and plug back in. It turns on and a far right vertical strip flickers and shuts off. I actually got it to turn on after I did the reset and moved it around. Once I tried to switch screens to go to settings the screen flickered and shutoff.

Per Sony site, unplug for 3 minutes if your T.V. picture goes out and you have blinking red lights. If still have a problem and T.V. is plugged into a power strip, then unplug for 3 minutes, then plug directly into wall. The power strip could be bad. (https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/de...)

It could also be a backlight problem of some sort.

If you can view T.V. again, and want to see error codes, do the following: Turn T.V. off. Quickly press "Display", "Channel 5", "Down Volume", then "Power". Press "Power" again if nothing came up on T.V. See error codes. Press "Power" again, then again, to return to normal T.V. (https://electro-medical.blogspot.in/2016...) and (http://tampatec.blogspot.de/2015/03/sony...)

I have same problem with my T.V., Sony kdl32xbr4. I already know I have a backlight error of some sort, since part of the screen is slightly darker. The codes verified that. I also had the 6 blinking red lights with no picture at all. Unplugging for 3 minutes did reset the picture. Error 6 was listed on my T.V. as a backlight problem. Though I do not know for sure if Error 6 is the same as the 6 blinking lights, since the blinking light happened when the picture went totally out. The backlight partially went out a few month ago with no blinking lights.

I will eventually need to take my T.V. in for repair but do not currently know what the cost will be. I am hoping it is worth repairing. It has been a great T.V.

These units seem the have the same problem with the red light blinking. I had just purchased a new 75 in 800g and after just three days of watching it went out. Was watching a program, and all of sudden, tv shut down and then started blinking. I tried to reset by unplugging and plugged back in and looked like it tried to start, but then that awful clicking noise, and shut off again. I called the store where I purchased the unit and they said they would be sending me a new tv. Just an inconvenience for customers for paying a good price for a decent set and then this happens. You wonder why they would not get on board with this problem and have it done with. Most of these problems seem to arise from the main board. That happened to a Sharp 65 in I had. Still waiting for the part to replace the board. With this problem, I had no sound, but a great picture. Frustrated indeed...

I resolved the issue by solder and ground the pins at the top of the backlight terminal,

Where did you solder at exactly?

par

yes ground what pins of the block,, the already grounded pins, this would mean bad solder joints aka reflow, or bad transistor grounds to backlight i know sony use fail safe software and if such errors happen it shuts down the mainboard ,

par

I had the same problem on my KDL40 - power on then Green Light followed by SONY logo a couple of times then blank screen with red light blinking six times repeatedly.

Googled Sony problems for 6 blinking reds and got several comments on dodgy power boards or LED strips etc..

Disconnected everything a laid it screen down on the floor and got the Henry Vac to clear all the dust and wiped down the back with baby wipes.

Checked that it was only 4 years old so tried the Reset sequence....

First find the TV power on/of button on the side.

Then plugged in power cord and power on while holding the up arrow button on remote. then with SONY logo pumped on/off button while up arrow held down.

Great News......it came up good as usual saying No Signal so plugged in SKY and selected the SKY Sports channel fine....

Lets hope it stays working and was just a Sony safety shut down, we shall see.

par

Yo mine just shut down last night gonna try that thanks

par

Hi Peter, how do I reset without a remote...

Hi @clarkenick3

A 6x blink error code is a panel backlight failure either in the G board, the Panel module or the BMX Board.

Here’s a composite image of the error blink triage chart and the 6 blink error troubleshooting flowchart taken from the service manual which may be of some help. (see p.3, that shows that the 65w857c is also listed in this manual)

If it is a board or perhaps the harness, then it will be cheaper than a new panel (if you can source one) and definitely cheaper than a new TV

mdurkin, so was it the replacement power supply that fixed your issue or was it the unplugging of your WiFi board?

par

Unplugging the WIFI board worked before but alas it has failed again, going to open it back up and see what it might be this time..

Solved: I don’t know which of these fixed it, but I did all three and it works now. Took TX to the garage and using an air compressor, blew air through all of the vents/grills. Lots of dust. Compressed air can have a lot of moisture if you live where it is humid, so be careful. If you don’t have a drier on your compressor, maybe use canned compressed air designed for electronics. Gently laid the TV over on its face (protected with towels) and lightly tapped on the back in several places. Finally, with it plugged in, I held down the power button for 30 seconds. Seemed to have worked. Also, plugged it directly into the outlet and avoided the power strip.

Usually bad connection. I removed 4 screws holding the tuner board between the power board and main board. It has a long connector. Took it out and cleaned the contacts. TV working OK .

OK, this may help some, I turned my Sony KLD 550 back-light from 5 to 7 and the TV instantly turned off.

Then went into an endless startup loop because the back-light is failing and the TV will not run with it set to 7. The red light at the front of the unit confirmed there is an issue with the back-light because it flashes 6 times at each boot-up. It would boot to the Sony Logo & would then switch off & start all over again endlessly. This is because the auto light sensor is telling the TV to brighten the back-light back to 7 because it is in a dark room but the back-light cant handle it so it shuts down. I could not even do a hard reset using the TV buttons because it was so far out of wack & the TV could not boot far enough to let me do it. I tried for hours doing every hack on YouTube & the forums but nothing fixed it.

Time to think outside the Box.

Now U might think this is BS but to get around this issue and get the TV to the point where I could do a hard reset I got a super bright LED Torch & shined it straight into the light sensor on the front of the TV at boot-up. This made the TV turn down the Back-light at boot-up, which allowed the TV to finally well Boot-Up. Then I instantly got it to do a hard reset and when this was done I turned the back-light down to 4 & put brightness on MAX . It runs like a dream again now & I can hardly tell the difference in brightness or picture quality.

At least I don’t have to go without TV and it gives me time to buy a new one now.

Probably not the backlight but a week transformer

par

But solves the power issue buy reducing the demand. I replaced mine the transformer and tv has been working like new for several years

Now google is making it so older devices can’t update and all the tv is good for is being hooked up to a cable box

What can I do with my Sony KD-55X8500C please?

6 red light blinks, after right side of the screen becomes from normal bright to dark.

I removed the back panel and the top and 2 vertical side frames: all the side led are bright for 3 seconds, than 15cm of the top right led, plus all the vertical side led line turns off, blinking then red and obviously turning off.

During the time the screen tries to turn on, everything seems normal and that’s when the Android operative system tries to start.

I’ve changed the power board, without any success.

Is there any one here can give me a clue, please.

par

I took a video showing the issue, if it can help anyone to understand better the technical problem.

for your reply Hutchinson.

But I’m not sure about the test I should try.

Do I have to do it with the power on, during the normal start?

I’ve already changed the power board, with not any difference (I’ve got 2 power boards now!).

I’m worried a part of the linear led lights are broken, but I’ve got no idea how to fix it, if it’s the problem.

By pass the bl error cable to a ground. Then you are ready

par

Ajouter un commentaire

So if you have changed the power supply and it’s still doing it it leads me to believe that you have a backlight problem and the only way to fix this is exactly what you are fearing get the brightest light possible or put the tv in a extremely well lit room so during start up it won’t call for the backlight to come on once it powers up go into your settings and turn it all the way down or off

If none of this comes to a resolve then you most likely have burnt row of leds

Thanks for that Hutchinson,

I’ll try to do like you’re saying, soon.

I must put everything back in place first and I’ll let you know how it goes, if my tv turns on…

Hoping there is a way to turn off the back light in the settings; but I think I saw it before.
