The late 2005 Power Mac G5 was introduced in October, and discontinued in August the next year. There were three configuration options, one dual core processor at 2.0 GHz, one dual core at 2.3 GHz with model number A1177, and one dual core dual processor (quad core) at 2.5 GHz.

How to Recover Data from the hard drive

My G5 won't power up. The power supply has been replaced and I've been told that the processors need replacing. How can I get the data from the Hard Drive?

Thanks in advance.

Use an external enclosure or a Universal adapter, plug the drive into it and attach to another Mac.

Processors need replacing, very questionable diagnostic.

To address your problem please give us the last three figures of your serial number.

Thank you for your response. The G5 serial is CK415J7LRSJ.

The last numbers on the processors are T6418.

Please ask another question, just about the PowerMac. Replacing the processor is probably cost prohibitive. Meanwhile we might be able to tell from the diagnostic lights what the actual problem is. When asking please give all symptoms, sounds and lights you get. Several are available on eBay for just over $100 with shipping and may just need your video card and a hard drive. This one (sans hard drive and RAM) came out of NASA and was probably well maintained : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-Power-Mac-...
