Plugged in, not charging

My tablet won't charge, and displays "Plugged in, not charging". I checked the charger, and it seems to work just fine with other devices, so I'm thinking this is a charging port issue. (Because if it was the battery that was the issue, it would display that it was at least charging, right?)

Does anyone have any idea what the cost to repair this would be? Would it be cheaper just to replace the whole thing?

Or might it actually still just be the battery? Anyone have any other ideas? Anything else to check?

I've left it charging (well, plugged in...) over 24 hours, left it to run the battery dead & shut itself off and left it off for a few days and tried again, tried connecting it to my PC, just to see what happens, all got me the same results: "Plugged in, not charging".

Thanks for any input!

Hi,

A faulty battery might give an indication of not charging. Charging current needs to flow into the battery to charge it and if the battery is not accepting the current this may be detected and the message of not charging 'may' be given.Does it turn on and stay on with the charger connected? Also does your charger have an output rating of 5VDC 2A (should be printed on the charger)?

Bit confused here you said ...'left it to run the battery dead and shut itself off.... was it on (running) or did the 'not charging' message just disappear? Does it turn on using only the battery (after you have left it on charge for long enough, even though it says not charging)? If so how long does it stay on for? If it stays on for a reasonable amount of time, perhaps it is a software reporting problem and not a hardware problem.

Depending on your 'exact' model number there may possibly be a 'firmware' fix which resolves battery charging problems. Have found link for B1-730 and B1-730HD, slightly different problem to yours but still charging related. So maybe armed with that info you could search for 'your model number' firmware updates and see if there are any and if they relate to your problem.

OK I had exactly the same problem for the past 2 days. Cleaned out my power plugs, changed my charger and no luck. Then I remember that I didn't reset the charge on the motherboard that builds up over time. To do this you simply turn off your tablet, then hold your power button for 4 to 5 seconds and it will double blink. POW! the device started charging again. Let us know if this works for you. Some devices require you to hold the power button for longer than 10-15 seconds before it works (Whilst off and nothing connected).

This worked for me! Thank you.

Hasn’t worked for me, think it might be the charge port in which case it’s probably useless and I’ll have to but a new tablet.

Worked for me too... Thanks

My A700 won't power on as the battery is totally dead. But, there is a small hole next to the USB port that says "reset". Will this work?

Being afraid to trow away the tablet, crossing your solution. Great finding, it worked ! I'll have a beer to your health ;o)

From what I hear you have to put the charger in a Ziploc and put in your freezer over night.

Probably not the best solution but I should work

My ACER tab mod B3-A40 often get a battery overheating msg ask to "remove battery". In time would random abruptly turn off while in use. Then frequency turn offs increased & only able use while was plugged in. In more time inoperable. Turned off and would boot. I bought a brand new battery from an auth ACER parts dealer. Still not work. While plugged red light below camera lens lit up but not boot. I charged for hours & nothing. Somehow by tinkering it turned on, showed low battery 3% & when plugged in the battery icon showed it was in charge mode (with lightening bolt) but went from 3% to 2% with constant warning battery low to plug in. By simple observation microusb charge port seems ok not loose. My battery is not accepting a charge or it is not recognizing that a battery is plugged in as I would have assumed that a new factory battery would have some pre-charge in it if not full. And of course my question is why? or what could be the possible reasons? Is it the charge port or circuit board stuff?
