To my knowledge 7200 RPM IDE/ATA hard drive are no longer produced, but I could be wrong. You will see a slight performance increase in the opening of documents or opening of programs, but you may just need to go with a 5400 RPM drive.

Yes, it will run just fine with a 7200 drive.
Here's a current new Hitachi 0A26597 TRAVELSTAR 2.5" 100GB 7200RPM IDE : http://www.google.com/products/catalog?c...
Here's three more new ones: http://discountechnology.com/Products?se...

Somebody is still producing them. I haven't seen them in so long. Thanks for the link!

This DRIVE here is what you might be looking for. It is currently out of stock, but you can look for it elsewhere. I think there is a nice performance gain from 5400 to 7200 RPM upgrade. Go for it, good luck!!

Also, if you search eBay for "7200rpm 2.5" ata hard drive", you'll see a pile of them.

Hey RDKL. Up for a debate? LOL ;o)
Just bought one myself for my new to me PowerMac G4. +
I'm debated out for now...let's fix computers instead! :-)
Thanks all you guys. After 7 hours, a lot of coffee, some Google Translator and with a precious help from my wife, the iBook is running OSX 10.5.8 in a Maxtor 160Gb, 5400 rpm (the only one that I found here, in Santa Efigênia street, São Paulo). I am very happy and grateful for this site and its amazing community. Thanks again guys, you are the best. And sorry for my bad english!

Thanks for all the answers, guys. I am from Brazil. I just found refurbished or used 7200 rpm drives and the biggest, a 100GBs HD. I think Matt Barnes must be right, they are no longer procuced, just the SATA ones. I`m gonna buy a 5400 rpm/8Mb buffer drive. Best regards!
