Black shadow top right corner

I have this annoying black shadow/tint in the rop right corner of my iPhone 6 Plus.

How can I fix this? This happens by the way also on another screen, I've tested it. So I guess the screen is not the problem ...

How did this issue come about? I have the same issue with an iPhone 6 after replacing the screen. Could it be a result of not disconnecting the battery before disconnecting the screen connectors?

Will the shadow go bigger with time if not repaired?

par

It’s dark and at times it flashes and then it’ll be back to normal for a short period of time sometimes it turns purple/blue

It’ll be like that for a while but then it’ll go back to normal but when I drop it again, there it goes

par

What about if half of the screen vertically is half back? Would that still be a logic board?

par

Less noticeable, Just turn the brightness up on your phone. Turn off automatic adjustment

There is a problem with your backlight circuit on the board itself.

In itself it is not a big issue. However, there are complications ahead.

First, have you had any touch issues previously? If not, for 6+ there is some risk of developing one after the backlight issue is repaired. Sometimes heating can trigger this "waiting to happen" fault.

Second, the backlight circuit is just around the CPU and that's where the second complication lies: one has to be conservative when trying to repair the backlight in this area to avoid harm to the CPU. Avoiding damage to the CPU is what limits the repairability to experienced techs.

The cause of this is that a component on one of the two b/l circuits that this phone has failed. Could be an anode, cathode, b/l driver, or diode.

My advice is to live with it if your only option is DYI because it's not a DYI repair.

Otherwise if you're ready to spend some money to fix it, take/send it to someone with enough experience in this type of repair.

If you don't know anyone reliable, check my profile here on iFixit for a link to a website that has a list or tried technicians. From those, if you're in or near the US, I suggest you use ipadrehab. If you're down under or near Australia, you have geelongmicrosoldering.

I'm not trying to be spammy, but I do believe this is not for someone with "some experience." It has to be someone with serious experience or they'll kill your phone.

It most certainly is. You must disconnect battery first and reconnect it last.

can the black dark shadow spread?

Backlight issues are rarely the backlight driver. The 6plus has two backlight circuits. One has failed, often it is one of the cathode filters that complete the return trip of the backlight line to the board. Definitely a job to outsource, but repairable.

I've seen this problem before and replacing just the backlight fixed it for me. It does require a little soldering to do though. Otherwise replacing the whole screen will fix it too, but will be more $$.

If you still have warranty on the phone, take it to the apple store and get it replaced free.

Thank you for your response. But like I said, it happens with other screens too ... I've tested it with other (new) screens.

par

Where should I go to do it ???

par

Solved: if you have done the repair after disconnecting the battery and you still have a black corner then disconnect the battery once more slightly heat the board with hot air where the ic chips lay and your problem should be gone. Happened to me loads recently and this fixed everytime!

it sounds like the controller for the backlight (on the logic board) has gone bad. This basically means its unfixable. but you can always try a factory reset

I know this thread is old, but maybe my reply could still help someone, so I am adding it.

In my case, the upper right corner was dark after doing a screen replacement, and was due to missing electrical tape over 2 sets of soldered connections on the new screen. In my case, the new screen displayed properly until i closed it down into the casing, and would display properly again when I reopened the phone. I suspected crimped cables, but ultimately was able to rule it out and also rule out some other issues using my old screen (which functioned but had a dead band for touch).

Ultimately, I disassembled the new screen again and compared closely with the old, which is when I found the missing electrical tape. I guess this was causing a short but only once the screen was compressed by installing it into the rear casing. Transferring the two pieces of electrical tape solved the issue for me.

Thanks for this. Do you have a picture of the area where these tapes are supposed to be?

Try to update the software. I don't know the reason but that fixed my problem. Maybe it will fix yours too.

I had the same problem after replacement of backlight filter (FL2024) on iPhone 6. I cleaned the board with isopropylalcohol and make sure that the screen connector is properly connected that solved problem in my case. I hope that helps your too.

Could installing a defective screen and powering up the phone cause this?

A replacement screen would not light up at all... defective. The replacement for the replacement works fine but for the darkness in the upper right of the screen. Identical to the OP's picture. I'm pretty darn careful about disconnecting battery before pulling a screen, so I don't think that was the cause.

Anyway, thanks for reading.

I had the same issue with my iPhone6 ... Warranty was going to expire in a week so I visited the Apple Store. They replaced the screen but the issue was not solved. So they just replaced the phone for me. Unfortunately this new one is having the same issue. This is the second iPhone6 replaced by Apple for me and also the display on the old one was replaced twice including this one. I am assuming this is an issue with the iPhone6 model in general. Mine is not very noticeable during normal use but during the night when everything is dark in the room I can see it on my phone at minimum brightness. I still have 3 days of AppleCare+ left. But I think I should keep this one since the next one might have the same issue and there probably wont be a solution for it.

Hi Chinmay, I have the same issue with you, base on your experience did it spread over the entire screen?

Is this issue due to damage by the user or is it a software/hardware issues? I don't know much about technology but I take good care of my phone. The top right/right half of my screen has this black film over it. Restarting it seems to make it go away most of the time but it always comes back.

I replaced a cracked screen & got the upper right corner shadow.. I followed the proper procedure that was given to me by a cell phone repairman that happens to be a friend of a friend.. I reconnected the cracked screen & no issue.. for me, I believe it’s the replacement although I’m not 100% sure.. will be getting my replacement replaced & see if it solves the issue.
