Water damage, what can I do?

Last night I split about a half cup of water on my MacBook Pro. I wiped the water up and flipped it upside down as the screen turned from red and blue to black. I next unscrewed the back and pated the insides dry. After that I tried turning it on because I was nervous. I've let it sit all night and set it up in the sun with a fan blowing on it all day. It's been about 20 hours, and it felt very dry, so I screwed the back on to it and tried turning it on again with no luck. Should I let it sit longer or is my MacBook dead?

With what you described happened to the screen, sounds like you've shorted the logic board, at the very least.

You can buy another one and replace it yourself, you might be able to salvage the other parts, HDD/SSD, RAM, the display, CD drive, track pad.

But TBH, I'd say it's a write off, there's no guarantee any component still works.

To try and recover your data, follow the guide and remove the HDDs, buy yourself a SATA-to-USB cable (very cheap on amazon).

I would add that there's no way the Macbook can be brought back to life by just letting it dry.

Once a liquid started to damage a board, only a good clean with alcohol and damaged parts replacement is a durable solution.

At least the display cable and the LVDS connector need replacement.

A board-level repair shop would do it for a lower price than buying a new machine, imho.
