Where did you order the power cord from?

My Black Lab just Chewed the plug in Part off the Cord Last night, Thanks for the Thred.

My puppy chewed my cord today, couldn't believe it! Oddly comforted to see I am not the only one and perhaps this is common puppy behavior. Thanks for the steps, hope it works on my shark vacuum since its a bit different model.

My dog chewed the cord to my shark rotator pro NV500 into pieces. Will these same steps help me?

You’ll need to order the whole canister with the plug, it does ta come separately. I would

Call shark. They are VERY good at responding and getting you the parts you need. They have a very good warranty too.

Thanks for posting this, I successfully made the repair. My wife ordered a new cord right after our puppy decided to chew on it. Yes, it was unplugged!

Those images will help you take it apart, CLICK HERE for a complete set of pics! I hope this helps someone out, and I am sure someone will comment there is a better way to make connections. I am sure there is, but this worked perfectly. My only advice is, keep each screw with each part. Take your own step by step pics, they really helped in making sure I put the wire protector parts back in place correctly. Happy Ifixing! (ifixit.com, feel free to use these images!)

Same story, Spencer from CT, dog chewed through the cord in three different places before I even could plug it in and turn it on. Thanks for your very thoughtful and comprehensive details and instructions. Regards, mister_marv

hahaha, same story here too! Glad to hear I'm not the only one that has to keep cords away from my puppy! Thanks for the instructions!

amazing. my dog chewed mine this morning , im so relieved …. really could not afford another vacuum right now

:D

I had no clue how to replace my cord. I can take anything apart, your pictures saved me on putting it back together. I must say it made feel important when the vacuum actually worked. Thank you

par

Thank you for this. I'm actually attempting to replace the cord. Could I take a cord off of an old vacuum that I dont use anymore instead of buying a new one and having to wait for delivery. The other vacuum cord has the same wires / 2 prong. ...looks pretty much the same

YES YOU CAN, cause I just did.

Ordered the cord from Amazon $18 or so.

remove the dirt canister and vacuum head. remove all the screws from the bottom of the canister and pull the cover off. inside you will see a plate with 4 screws, remove this. Now you will see the crimp on wire nuts, I didn't have these so I just simply used twist on wire nuts and tape.

Reassemble and vacuum away. Easiest repair I've had to make on a household appliance.

Hope this helps.

Me too and I am 72 and have never used anything except a screw driver and a hammer so this was a challenge. But I DID IT !! I could not have done it at all without Spencer from CT - see above. I spent two hours searching YouTube etc and there just isn't any good tutorial out there. I did run into some snags tho' because I am such a rank beginner. I used to make instruction manuals as part of my job, so I wrote it up in even more detail than Spencer used. The file is 2682 KB tho' so I don't know how to get it to you folks. Can someone help me with that? Cz

Hi @czchick ,

Here's how to create a guide on ifixit.

Sharon, did you ever post the step by step guide? Thanks D

Another option is replace the plug only, if the dog chewed close to the plug. That would shorten the cord a little. Or cut of the cord where bad and put a new plug, then use an extension cord. Hide from dog !

Ok so my German Shepard Zeus just chewed my shark vacuum cord in half. Where do I order a replacement cord?

So I did NOT have my dog chew through the cord, but I did pull the plug from the wall and one prong was still in the outlet. Hmmm....I happen to have an identical spare Shark for parts, so I am going to attempt this repair with the above advice. I kept looking at it and thought surely I can do this. I'll let you guys know how it went.

Yes you can... you can do it your self (if you feel confident in taking the vacuum apart) or you can take it to almost any vacuum repair shop and they will do it...

Also at the moment there does not appear to be any guides for the top half of that vacuum and if you did it your self you would most likely need to do some soldering

Great pics, thank you! Easy repair - the small orange wire nuts for #18 wire work well. Be careful not to over-tighten the black screws when putting back together as the heads will twist right off - as I did for the first one :/

I don’t have an answer. My cat chewed my cord. Is it safe to put the black electric tape around it?

Pictures did not help me. I’m sure they are excellent, I just have a problem seeing the detail.

Hi,

It is safer to replace the cord. Saves a lot of potential problems from occurring in the future.

Electrician's tape is best used on wires/cables where there is no movement in the wires and it is out of sight/contact with people

If you can't manage it yourself perhaps you know someone who will be able to do it for you especially with some help from the advice above.

Most of the answers are not for the Shark Rocket model HV301, the motor is on the top of the stick and once you remove the screws for the top cover there are 4 additional screws that I can’t remove. Removing those 4 screws would get me to the motor and the cord attachment.

Hi @amelilli146

Given that the original question was about a Shark Navigator Lift-Away Pro NV370, it is understandable that they do not relate to a HV301.

Post your 'answer" as a new question on ifixit and add some close up images of the problem screws. Perhaps someone may be able to help you.

Here's how to do this.

Ajout d'images à une question existante

Perhaps the screws of the "tamperproof" variety and is this why you are having trouble removing them.

Have you seen this?
