Is a thermal sensor needed when replacing HDD with SSD?
Hello,
I have found similar questions to mine, most offering to make a fusion drive by adding an SSD blade. This is not a good option for me.
My internal HDD is failing in my iMac 27" (late 2013) and I am using an external Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSD currently. I would like to remove the HDD and put the SSD inside.
I plan to buy the kit for replacement and a 2.5" to 3.5" tray for the SSD: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/SSD2...
*My question is however the case of the thermal sensor,* do I need the thermal sensor as seen on the OWC website here? https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DIDI...
If so, where would I stick the sensor on the SSD?
Many thanks for answering.

Hello,
If you decide to buy the thermal sensor from OWC you will need to plug the cables and stick the thermal sensor on any part of the SSD. If you dont buy the thermal sensor a bypass that work most of the time is HDD fan control app that you will need to install after the SSD installation is complete and if the fans are raving.

Hi Alex,
Thank you for answering. As I have read some comments saying the fan control app may not be the best option as some damage was still made after prolonged use I will be buying the thermal sensor as it seems to be a safer option.
Thanks,
Daniel
