Trying to connect to iTunes but the computer does not detect the phone

So I bought this used iphone 5s. It was stuck in recovery mode and he gave it to me for 100$. I think I got scammed. Anyways, the phone when turned on shows an apple logo for a split second then connect to itunes logo but when i connect to my computer, it doesnt even detect it. Its not like device not recognized, I mean not even usb connected sound on my computer. I tried different computers, still the same thing. Is there anyway to restore this phone? Thank you.

Well I restored it and now its locked. iCloud locked. %#*@ this is the first time I bought an iPhone. Didnt know much about these locks and $@$*. The guy said try to bypass it. Well I dont think theres a way out now.

If your iPhone is iCloud locked, then there is nothing you can do with it. It is a brick, for all intents and purposes.

You could try to sell it, identifying it as iCloud locked. There are many people who buy them for the parts (screen, cameras etc). Or go back to the guy who scammed you and get your money back.

Are you using the latest version of iTunes available? Open iTunes and click Help in the main menu > Select Check for Updates > Download the latest iTunes version

When you have the phone unplugged from the computer turn it off, then back on, and then plug it back into updated iTunes and see if that works.

I am using the latest version of itunes but I am not using the official apple cable to connect. I got this cable to connect the phone in a certain position and downloaded the ios firmware but when it started restoring it gave me an error 9 and then i had to reposition the iphone so it could be detected again.

Replace the charging port because it sounds like a bad charging port.

I wouldn't call it scammed if he sold it to you 'while it was stuck in recovery mode and he gave it to me for 100$' It should be obvious that the phone might be bricked.

No thats not what i meant by scammed. I knew the phone was in recovery mode. But I have this feeling that the phone is stolen. I googled imei on several sites and one of them said its blacklisted. Anyways I borrowed original apple cord from a friend and it worked. Now i am locked out, texted the guy for the id and pass. Lets see.

Yeah he most likely sold you a stolen phone.

Look, to reset the phone, open it up, take the battery out, and put it back in. That should do it.

No, that only restarts it. It needs be reset. Iv'e been using smart devices since I was 8.
