Wifi is disabled and cannot be re-enabled

So recently my Chromebook was not connecting to any networks. When I went to look at the connections, it said that the Wi-Fi was turned off, and the button to turn it on was not present at all. Upon clicking on 'Settings', the Wi-Fi network was listed as 'Disabled', but when I went to click on it, it does not give any options to re-enable it. What's wrong with it?

Same issue here. I've tried to power off, powerwash and reset many times without much success. Then I took the laptop to my local PC shop. The technician opened the back, removed the Wifi card, cleaned it and screwed it back tightly and it’s been working fine since then.

After dealing with this issue for years on my daughters school Chromebook (ASUS brand) I finally was able to fix the issue by opening it up and placing a tiny paper washer underneath the screw to raise the wireless card just slightly, now it works great. To verify unscrew the wireless card but leave plugged in, it should sit at a slight angle in the connector, then power up and see if it works.

I just tried doing this with my daughter's acer chromebook and it worked great! I used a tape to fix it in place. Thank you!

Did this with my lenovo chromebook and it fixed the problem!

Before I was losing wifi multiple times an hour and restarting it was the only way to get connection again. After sticking two tiny pieces of index-card cardboard under the wireless card, it's been going strong for 24 hours!

This post combined with this video on how to take apart a chromebook was the fix for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejC_h-l7...

I also did this with my Acer Chromebook. I took the back off and unscrewed the screw holding the wireless card down and when I restarted the Chromebook, it actually worked!!! It’s a lot simpler than it sounds. Thank you so much

I had this exact problem. I even took it to a pc repair shop and they said the WiFi chip may be faulty but they replaced it and it still didn't work! I bought a cheap ethernet to usb cable from eBay and plugged it in and now it's working! The WiFi is still disabled but I can use it now through plugging it into the ethernet cable at home.

I took mine to a repair shop out of frustration. In less than 5 mins, the assistant unscrewed the case, removed the WiFi card, cleaned up card & port. screwed everything back. No issue with the WiFi since then.
