Home button is overheating

One night when I checked the phone, the home button was burning like none before and slowly i started to feel unusual warm from whole iphone 6 plus but no temperature warming sign at time.

I immediately switch it off for good. About half hour later. I turn it on again. Everything seem to be normal, however it only last for 15mins. And home button is getting hot again. Now, touch id function is not functioning even after data factory reset.

After few experiment, I find pattern of issue.

  • when lock screen, home button will get overheat in 15 mins.
  • when playing phone, there is no unusual warm after first occurrence.
  • when I plug cable in USB, iphone work surprisingly normal no heat at all. But when I plug cable in socket, home button is getting hot.

Solution I tried:

  • data factory reset

Can anyone help to explain what could be cause of issue? or way to diagnose issue? I asked authorized apple repair center, they asked me to replace entire home screen despite that only home button have heat issue.

Is it plugged in? It could get hot near the lightning port when charging. Do you have any battery saver apps installed or similar?

I updated my iPhone to ios 11, but after some times my phone started to overheat. I've got a thread from Google, in which I have met the Standard Solutions of iPhone overheating.

I had experienced the same on 8-10 iphone 6 plus's . The issue on them itself was lying in the homebuttons themselves. Replaced all buttons and the stopped heating up. But ofcourse we lost the touch id functions. Ok, now back to the faulty homebuttons, I didn't find any shorts or anything unusual with the faulty buttons compared with fully functioning buttons from working phones. Thanks

Out of curiosity have the people with overheating home buttons had their screens replaced? I have a iPhone 7 Plus that was perfectly ok until I swapped the broken screen for a non genuine cheap version. Now the button is overheating even if I use it on the old genuine broken screen. I have checked the button ribbon using magnifier and it’s perfectly ok. I have a hunch that apple have a check feature built in to blow the home button if non genuine screens are used.
