No sound for incoming calls or texts

I have an Alcatel One Touch. It's been working fine until yesterday afternoon. In the morning, I was still getting sound notifications for texts and phone calls. In the afternoon, I realized I had missed calls and texts because no sound came with the ringing of the phone or the incoming text. Actually, the phone goes straight to voice mail, after first saying the voice mail box had not been set up (which it had, but I did it again). So I have checked that the volume is up, and that the ring/sound tones are set as they once were. I re-set up the voice mail box and it is working but the phone goes directly to it without ringing. I have restarted/rebooted it, and I have shut it off, waited, and turned it back on. I'm not sure what else to check. I have had others more savvy than I am look at it and they see that all is set up correctly but it isn't making sounds with incoming calls or texts.

Hi @cherthejoy ,

Have you checked the following settings in "phone app", to see if the Call Barring - Incoming Calls - All calls barred option is unchecked or in Call Forwarding that the options are set correctly?

How do I get back the sound of my phone.... I have a cousin she borrow my phone and download some app after a while.i used my phone and does t have any sound it only have a sound when I call someone. I hear them but it doesn't have a sound in incoming call and messages even in man applications like youtube, Facebook and other apps that I used..... Can you help me to fix it

Hi @ maria Colly Villaflor,

Try starting the phone in safe mode and check if the sounds now work OK.

If they do then a downloaded app is the cause of the problem.

You need to uninstall each downloaded app, one by one, and test the phone between each uninstall to see if it is now OK. Once the phone works correctly, the last downloaded app that you uninstalled is the culprit.

@cherthejoy go to Settings --> Applications --> Phone

There should be a section there called "Notifications".

Make sure that that is switched on.

Also do this with Settings --> Applications --> <whatever messaging program you use>

Hi @avanteguarde ,

Just curious, how does this equate with i/c calls going straight to voicemail? (see OP quote "Actually, the phone goes straight to voice mail")

par

OP also said "no sound came with the ringing of the phone ".

par

Which would be right if i/c calls went straight to voicemail, bypassing the phone.

How would one know otherwise if there was an i'c call/message besides tone signal or vibrate alert.

For instance, does the screen light up and indicate a call when tone/vibrate signals are muted or off?

par

Well, i/c calls wouldn't "ring" if they were not getting to the phone. It would literally go straight to voicemail without ringing. If you hear "ringing" then the call goes through. Second indication is OP stated that the phone is getting texts with no sound. From the statement that the phone had "had missed calls and texts " also indicates the phone is ringing with no sound.

par

If all the suggested settings are correct (presumably the loudspeaker is working OK), would a corrupted phone app cause this? Perhaps clearing the phone app cache perhaps?

OP stated that she only rebooted the phone not reset it.

If it’s just no notifications for messages then try this;

  1. Settings
  2. notifications
  3. Scroll to

# Messaging

  1. Check that

# Block all is not turned on

Also look at;

  1. Open messages
  2. Tap the 3 dotes in the top right corner
  3. Settings
  4. Notifications
  5. Check settings

Both of these ways do different things and just because you have the notifications ticked in the messaging app doesn’t mean you will be notified if you have the messages blocked in the main notifications phone settings.

Hope this works for you, it did for me (my wife found the 2 settings were different and fixed it, little smarty :) )

Also just looked at the call settings and it has the 2 different settings as well;

1 in the call settings and 1 under notifications then the call settings there.

You would think that they might be linked but they are not.

Hope you can work my instructions out :)

This may happen when the phone has been accidentally set to do not disturb.

For the Alcatel A206DL try Settings - Personalization - Notices - App Notices. Then scroll down to Messages and make sure “Allow Notices” is on.

Similar problems, put phone in silent mode and took it off but the device didn’t unmute. If your lucky simply restarting your phone will fix it like I did. Hold the power button for twenty seconds or until it restarts. Then try a sound check in settings.
