Samsung 850 Evo SSD not recognized in Mac Mini 2011?

I installed the SSD following the instructions on this site. I booted the first time in Internet Recovery Mode and let it do its thing. When it brings me to the next set of menus with the Disk Utility the SSD doesn't show up?

All cables are connected and none are damaged. I put the old HDD in again and it works just fine. Is there something I'm missing with the SSD that I need to do?

I've tried plugging the HDD in with USB and booting from it which works, but the SSD still isn't recognized in the Disk Utility.

I've tried putting the SSD in the USB enclosure and it is recognized. So i reformatted and ran First Aid but still it doesn't boot correctly.

I've tried carbon copy cloner of my HDD to SSD and then booting the SSD gives me the greyish screen with a circle with a line through it.

Are you swapping out the HDD for the SSD? Or are you adding it as a second drive?

I'm thinking the drive cable has degraded so the faster data flows with the SSD is having problems. I've had a few that needed replacing.

If you want to you can setup a dual drive using this: Installation d'un second SSD dans le Mac mini mi-2011 and this parts/tool kit: Mac mini Dual Drive Kit

is there a particular reason the drive cable would degrade?

Apple had issues with ribbon cables across quite a few different systems: MacBook Pro's both 13" & 15" and the Mac Mini's. The issues range between over flexing, abrasion, crushing and poor construction for the faster data rates of SATA III. SSD's push the cable more so! I constantly replace them.

Thanks I'll look at getting one and trying that out. It's going to take a couple weeks but I'll come back to accept the answer if that's the problem!
