Stylus C88 Printing Evenly Spaced Thin Black Horizontal Lines

From the time I purchased my Epson Stylus C88 it has printed black evenly spaced horizontal lines through my documents. I have done multiple cleanings, alignments, new cartridges, reinstalled the driver, tried different settings, reset the printer, etc. When I called Epson they said it probably had to do with the fact that I used generic cartridges. Does anyone know how I can stop this. Maybe a way to turn off the monitoring ink. I have seen videos but I do not have the option under maintenance to disable. Maybe someone has made a driver to override the Epson driver? I need to print my resume.

Hi @maganedinger ,

Does it do this when you copy or scan a document using the printer's control panel?

If not what OS is installed in the computer that the printer is connected to?

Does it do this when only printing from your "document" program (MS Office, Open Office , Libre Office etc) or from any program?

par

Hello. It doesn't have a scan or copy option. It prints on anything I print no matter if from web, email or a software program. It also prints the lines on the test printed page and alignment. If I have it set to text economy print it prints fewer farther spaced lines and if I print on the best photo setting it prints a lot more lines a lot closer spaced together.

Hi,

What OS is installed in the computer that the printer is connected to, you didn't say?

Sorry. It was Windows 8 now 10.

Hi @maganedinger ,

Thank you for that.

The drivers for your printer have been supplied by the Windows OS since before Windows Vista, so unfortunately there are no other drivers available.

There is however a way to test your printer without using the computer. At least enough to determine whether it is a printer problem or a computer / printer problem.

If the lines are still evident on the "test" page then there is a problem with the printer itself.

If there are no lines then there is a problem with either the cable connection to the printer (is it run near power cables by any chance?) or the computer, (have you tried it connected to another computer to see if the problem is there?).

Thank you for your help. The printer still prints lines when disconnected from pc.

Hey there ! Same problem on a Epson Photo 1400 . Parallel Lines when printing from either Pc or camera connected directly. I did a manual clean on the printhead and still prints those additinal lines everytime. Photo looks perfect underneath. Pls Help ..

par

Hi @ Alexandru Apavaloale,

Since you have cleaned the printhead, try different print quality settings to check if it alters or resolves the problem. Try the highest quality option available on the printer

par

Hi @jayeff , When I change the quality to max, the lines become closer an thinner to each other, but all over the place where photo/text is printed. When Normal quality, they are some 1mm apart, at max quality, about half a millimeter apart..Driving me crazy:)

Hi,

The only thing I can think of at the moment is to try and clean the paper feed rollers to check if that does anything to change what is happening.

Epson printers only accept Epson cartridges. Generic cartridges may even damage the printer. See the link below:

I also suspect the printer's cartridges because the problem started when you first bought the printer. Epson may be designing its products to malfunction unless they use Epson accessories.
