Is it possible to upgrade MacBook 13" A1181 from 2.0GHz to 2.4GHz?

I have a macbook 13" A1181 with a fried Core Duo 2.0GHz logic board. The person I took it from had spilled some liquid on it.

I am planning to replace the logic board and wondering if I can upgrade it at the same time to a Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz logic board since I'm already going to go through the trouble.

As far as I can tell, the current logic board has a 4-wall heat sensor connector on the heatsink. (it looks just like the 4-wall connector sold on ifixit, but the connectors on mine are black instead of white.

I can't tell about the battery connection yet - whether 20 or 18 pin.

If, assuming that the current heatsink and batter connection don't work on a core 2 duo, can I just replace them along with the logic board? Is there anything else that would need to be change? like the fan, hard drive, optical drive, etc, or will they have the same connection on the core due v. core2duo?

I really appreciate any guidance you can give me.

There are 17 MacBooks in the A1181 series. Please give the last three letters of your serial number to identify which one you have, then I can give you your options.

Sorry, I didn't see your response as you changed the question:

Hi there,

I have the exact same macbook and would like to do this as well.

Has there ever been a solution to this?

That could open a tremendously nasty can of worms. If my memory serves me correctly, the bottom cases between the 2.0 and the 2.4 models were different on some machines... so the screw holes moved ever-so-slightly on the logic board. You may run into issues with cables as well. The older fan style won't fit into the port on the newer boards. So on and so forth. I don't think the board can be swapped without swapping a lot of other components.

Thanks Josh. You're right, that would be a nightmare. I wonder if it is even worth the upgrade? I mean how much of a difference is there really b/w the CD2.0 and C2D2.4?

Josh is correct. I have a newer 2009 model of A1181 and a upgrade to 2.4Ghz board is a lot of work. Fans, Heatsyncs, Battery connectors, all differ and the logic boards have different fastening screw locations.

You have the A1181 machine, which is very good if you want to upgrade.

Your logic board is the 551-4220: http://www.welovemacs.com/apmapro132gm1....

You may be able to go to the 2.4 661-4709 without a problem. I contact some one like Ben Eisenman email ben@ifixit or call welovemacs for confirmation 1.800.588.5290
