Screen goes blank after opening laptop over 1/3 of the way

Hello,

The display on my MacBook Pro Late 2016 w/ Touch Bar goes blank after opening the laptop over 1/3 of the way. Any ideas? It almost seems like its a ribbon cable issue on the display side because the screen develops some white spots at the bottom just before it turns off.

I also have this issue after sending it back for a keyboard replacement after the sticking key issue. Mine does not have the touch bar though.

wanabewired - Did you send it back to get that fixed under the repair warranty? If they missed it you have an out to get it fixed under the repair warranty if you still have time

I haven't yet but I am going to shortly. It seems there is an additional 90 day warranty added to repaired machines which I'm currently well within. Just need to get up early and beat the iPhone kids to the Genius Bar.

Don't let it slide! Time is against you!

Okay, so you persuaded me to get off my arse and do something about it. Thanks!

I took it in and explained, it was still well within the 90 days so luckily all 'repairs' were covered. They told me it was probably due to a cable getting pinched and ended up replacing the whole top half of the laptop, monitor, shell, camera, the lot.

I think that warrants thinking about. I took the laptop in because of a sticky 'r' key. What I've ended up with is everything on the machine replaced bar the back plate and the motherboard and its contents.

Whilst this is a good result in that it's been sorted on warranty, even though the laptop is well out of warranty, it doesn't fill me with confidence come the time when something else fails that isn't covered by a warranty extension (read product recall) due to multiple class action lawsuits.

These things are ticking time bombs. My next machine will be a Dell XPS.

Yes, your MacBook Pro has a ribbon cable issue between the display & the logic board. Apple has been repairing many of these under warranty. If they won't cover it you'll need to get a replacement display assembly (lid) as the ribbon cable is not really replaceable.

So get your paperwork in hand and visit an Apple Store ASAP as time is ticking!
