my iphone 7 which is on 11.4.1 has the greyed out speaker. It has 71 days left on the warranty, and i have an appointment with a certified apple repairer. I am going to try and get repair or replacement . I am in the UK
What are my chances? if they refuse, can i appeal?

I agree with Tom, there is no reason they should refuse your warranty unless there is external or internal evidence of damage or prior “unauthorized” repair. If you do get an unhelpful Genius, you can ask for a manager or try again another day or at another store.
In a worst case scenario, the AudioIC problem is well documented and a long-term solution is at hand via repair shops that do micro-soldering repairs.

My appointment is tomorrow. I will post a update here with the outcome. I also see no reason why it should not get sorted, but i am worried as i cannot afford to replace it if refused. obviously it has signs of use, but no major dints to the case, everything else still works, even the fingerprint ID.

Why would they refuse warranty?

I have been reading up and some people have been refused. Are apple refusing to acknowledge it is the update that caused this?
If there is an issue, it is in warranty, there is no sign of excessive abuse, why would they reject a perfectly good warranty claim?
