Can I change the Motherboard on a S8

Hello, I want a firm answer on whether or not I can replace a broken motherboard with a new one. Someone mentioned the IMEI # being locked or something. Does that mean anything with what I am trying to do?

Absolutely. It is a relatively straightforward process as long as you have samsung repair experience. The hardest thing is making sure the replacement board you get is A) Not blacklisted (You can check the IMEI to confirm this or even call your carrier with the IMEI and they can confirm this as well B) The board is either globally unlocked or with the correct carrier and C) that there’s been no water damage or repair work ect done to the board you’re looking at.

Yes, but this often ends up totaling out the phone because they’re hard to find and are either tied to an account or blacklisted if the IMEI isn’t clean in most cases - all it takes to ruin your new board is the previous customer not paying it themselves. You want a clean debt free board to avoid this problem. AT&T and Verizon are the only “safe” boards for SIM locked phones because they make their customers pay their bill or blacklist it pretty much right away. T-Mobile waits ~90 days and BAM - Your new board is bad because they don’t force balance payment like the sensible carriers.

Besides the debt/blacklisting issues, it’s typically not worth it to replace the board financially, but it can be done. You will also break the water resistance without properly resealing it, so the phone will no longer be water resistant.

With that caution out of the way, here’s the guide you need to replace the board.
