How do I repair an iPad with water damage?

My iPad first took a long bath in a sink full of dishwater, then after attempting to dry it out in rice for several days I turned it on to see a waterlogged screen so I turned it back off and gave it a long bath in alcohol, then (in what was a very poorly thought out, probably fatal decision) I put it over the air vent with the heater on for nearly a full day… Now it is completely unresponsive and my computer won’t recognize it when connected via USB. Is it possible to retrieve the data or to repair it myself?

If the logic board is damaged and unrepairable, there won’t be any way to retrieve the data. The information is encrypted on the memory chip in current iOS devices, so even removing the chip (which would require specialized equipment anyhow) wouldn’t allow you to read it.

Your best bet is to disassemble the device and clean the parts according to a something like iFixit’s Electronics Water Damage guide, and hope you can bring it back to life. Otherwise, a specialized company like microsoldering.com may be able to repair any severe liquid damage to individual components.

Open it up and let it dry out. Some times if you put some rubbing alcohol on it, it can dry it off.
