Hi,

Have you tried using a different compatible charger, charger cable or connecting the camera to a computer’s USB port to see if the camera’s status light turns on or not, you didn’t say?

If possible have you tried a replacement battery to see if the camera charges and works OK?

If it still doesn’t charge, use a strong light and a magnifying glass to visually inspect the camera’s USB charge port to check if there is any blockage in the enclosure preventing a good electrical connection, e.g. lint etc and that all the pins are there and that they are straight and parallel with each other and not bent or broken.

If there is debris in the port enclosure, use a vacuum cleaner to try and suck it out. Do not use a pin or metal probe as you may damage the pins or cause an electrical problem in the camera. If the vacuum cleaner doesn’t dislodge it try using a sharpened wooden toothpick to gently prise it out.

If the port seems to be OK perhaps it is loose from the motherboard. Try the following:

Plug in an appropriate USB cable into the camera only, leave the other end disconnected.

Whilst firmly holding the camera in one hand, with the other hand grab the USB cable plug that is inserted into the camera and gently, stress gently, try to move it up and down and side to side to see if you detect any movement in the connector.

If you do detect movement (or even if not) the camera will have to be opened and the USB port inspected to ensure that it is connected OK.

Here’s a link to the ifixit Remplacement de la carte mère du GoPro Hero4 Silver guide which may be of some help.

The USB port is clearly visible in the image at Step.12 in the procedure.

As it is an SMD (surface mounted device) type component, you’ll need SMD soldering skills and tools to do the repair. There are videos on YouTube that show how to solder smd components

If resoldering the USB port seems too daunting, take the camera’s motherboard to a reputable, professional mobile phone or electronics repair service and ask for a quote to get them to do the smd soldering.
