I just replaced the screen on my iPhone SE from a replacement from ifixit. When I get a notification (like a text) the screen turns on but it’s gray. I have to hit the power button to turn the screen off then hit the home button to turn it back on. Sometimes I have to repeat the cycle to get the screen to respond properly.

Double check your connectors are firmly in place..despite the fact an occasional faulty replacement is always possible, a gray screen is not a typical symptom of a faulty screen. However iFixit screens come with a lifetime guarantee. Connectors should lock onto their sockets with a light clicking sound. If the screen was replaced with battery still in place a board fault may be possible too.
