What do I need to install a SSD 1T to replace original Fusion Drive?

Mine is an iMac 21.5” 2017 3.4 GHz 4K display. Originally it came with a 1Tb Fusion Drive. I need to speed it up replacing Fusion Drive with a 1Tb SSD. I am aware this is kind of difficult to be perform but I did it myself successfully with my old fat 21.5” 2011.

What exactly are the pieces I need to have done this change?

Thanks in advance.

Oscar.

This is a magnitude of difficulty greater than your 2010.

Here’s how to install the blade:

Thank you Mayer. I saw it before, but what I want is to remove the Fusion Drive (HDD and Blade) and install a SSD. I didn't see any specific instruction for my iMac.

What is your current configuration?

@oestrada - A Fusion Drive is made up with two drives a SATA HDD and a PCIe blade SSD.

Your system has both ports. Ideally, you want to replace the PCIe blade SSD with a larger capacity gaining both deeper storage and speed as @mayer has explained.

You could also replace your SATA HDD for a SATA SSD. But, you then lose the benefit of the faster I/O speed of the PCIe slot. Your current blade SSD is also quite small and not much use if you upgrade your SATA port to a SSD.

You don’t want to create a Fusion Drive config with two SSD’s as they will not work that well Vs having a larger blade SSD and your current SATA HDD in a dual drive config (not fused).

Now is:

iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017)

3,4 GHz Intel Core i5

8 GB 2400 MHz DDR4

Radeon Pro 560 4 GB

Fusion Drive 1Tb

The EMC number is 3069.

This model has a 1 TB "Fusion" Drive, which combines a 32 GB SSD and a 1 TB hard drive. It has a Serial ATA (6 Gb/s) connector for a 2.5" hard drive and a PCIe connector for the SSD.
