Is NFC antenna serialised? (makes Apple Pay not working?)

I have moved an iPhone X motherboard (MB, Front camera flex, Face ID) into another iPhone X’s body. Everything works fine but the NFC (Apple Pay to be exact). Apple Pay still work if i put the MB back to the old housing. Can someone help? thanks heaps

Try transferring the NFC cable to the new housing and see what happens. I would imagine it is serialized.

I did take off the wireless charging flex + the flex at the top left corner and transfer to the other phone (just connected it but not properly put in cuz was in a rush), Apple Pay still wouldn't work.

I don't believe the wireless charging pad is tied to NFC. There should be a little NFC antenna towards the top of the phone.

Just did a little digging. It appears that the NFC antenna is part of the volume flex cable. I know that the NFC antenna is tied to the apple watch and can cause pairing issues if it's replaced.

@hootonberg thanks for the info. I did took the volume flex (along with the wireless charging coil thingy) but just connected it without properly installed into the new housing. I guess that's probably why. And that Apple watch info helps me as well. Thanks!

@George Glad I could help! Props to you for fixing your own device!

It is possible to swap NFC flexes, I have done it successfully. With iPhone’s I always restore with iTunes and if it fails a 3rd party software. Software, software, software. Assuming all the parts are good it cures all manner of ills.

So I can't use another NFC antenna if I want Apple Pay to work? Or I need to factory reset it?

What third party software could fix the issue ? @ayerepair

par

@nizzi666 the software itself wont solve the problem however it often does the trick when replacing a component doesn't work. I happen to use itools, 3utools and of course itunes

I have similar problem with my iPhone X. my Apple Pay stopped working after replacing Wi-Fi bluetooth antenna still top left corner. Opened up again and tightened the screws associated with WiFi Bluetooth I antenna. I haven’t disturbed anything with the volume button. Since repeated failure of the shop using Apple Pay bought NTAG 215 tags to experiment with NFC tools app to test if working. Any suggestion will be helpful.

Often times it's a loose screw or the antenna ground is not in the right spot (misaligned). commonly found in the top corner of the rear housing near the camera or on the opposite side near wifi/bluetooth antenna or shield. I believe it runs behind the rear camera on the X.
