The Jeep Cherokee (XJ) is a compact SUV that was manufactured and marketed by Jeep from 1997 to 2001. Sharing the name of the original full-size SJ model, but without a traditional body-on-frame chassis, the XJ instead featured a light-weight unibody design.

My heated and power seats both failed at the same time.

My 2000 jeep Cherokee limited edition heated and power seats no longer work and both failed at the same time. I pulled the fuse for them and checked it and it was fine, put it back in, and they still do not work. Any tips or tricks to help troubleshoot?

Hi @mfjurewicz ,

Don’t know your vehicle but looking at the ''wiring diagram'' section of the repair manual the one thing that both the power seats and the heated seats circuits have in common is that they share the same earth connection point.

Since you have checked that the power for both the power seats and the heated seats is available at the fuse and circuit breaker point, check if the earth connection is OK so that current can flow to operate either the heater or the seat movement when the appropriate switch is operated.

I assume that this is what you meant when you said “I pulled the fuse for them and checked it……”. Did you just check that they were OK or did you also check by using a lamp or voltmeter, that there was power available at the fuse or breaker point as well?

Here’s some images from the wiring diagram that shows what I mean.

Unfortunately I don’t know exactly where the earth connection point on the chassis is for the power and heated seats. All that is shown is G306 connection point and then the harness connector numbers where the earth goes to the various seat switches and modules. You would think that it should be around the seat area somewhere as they wouldn’t want to waste money by providing long cable runs to somewhere else further away, but I may be wrong about this.
