How can I restore the firmware? Firmware update keeps crashing.

I recently replaced the hard drive cable on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012). The machine has an SSD installed running 10.9.5. After replacing the hard drive cable I attempted to boot up the system. It gave me a gray screen with the Apple logo, then the thick firmware update progress bar below the Apple logo. It gets about half way through the firmware update progress bar and then the machine powers off. Note that there are no startup tones or beeps happening during this process.

It seems like the problem is firmware corruption - my question is, how can I restore the firmware on this model? I’ve looked through Apple’s list of firmware restoration CDs and I can’t seem to find one for this machine. Any advice? Thanks!
