Hp monitor has no signal on both hdmi and displayport

Hi,

I have a Hp27b monitor that shows no signal on both the hdmi and displayport inputs. I have tried manually selecting hdmi or displayport on the monitor.

I tested this on two different laptops and both laptops are able to detect and identify the monitor on the laptop end. I tried updating the monitor driver and still the issue persists. The laptop is able to send the signal to the monitor, I believe the monitor itself is not receiving the output from the computer. I also tried different hdmi and displayport cables and same issue. I was able to get a signal on another monitor as well so that eliminates the laptop itself having issues.

Would this be hardware issue of the monitor? If so, would it be the logic board or the cables itself?

Thanks for reading.

Are there any power on lights on monitor? Can you enable monitor menu (using buttons in monitor)? Or in a dark room; connect to laptop and power on everythin g-> use a torch light to shine and see if there is some picture visible(if yes, then the backlight is broken)

@bmx2019

Yes, of course there is power on lights if I can select hdmi or displayport output on the monitor.... it literally says " input signal not found, check the video and cable source".

Dark room + torch check? next would be open it and see if there are any "leaked capacitors" - upload photos here.

Did the new mainboard fix the input issue? I have the same issue and pulled out the mainboard. Nothing obvious on the mainboard.

Hi @cannd ,

Assuming that you can view the monitor’s OSD OK and that there is no signal received on both input types and as you have tried different known working cables as well, most probably there is a problem with the motherboard.

If the monitor is out of warranty you could try opening it up and check if there is anything obviously wrong e.g. burnt out or heat stressed components etc. I don’t know the monitor but I suspect the the signal input connectors (HDMI & DisplayPort) are mounted directly on the circuit board and it would be unusual for both of them to be loose etc.

You could try getting a replacement board by searching for the “board” number rather than the monitor make and model number (this only gives new monitors and I haven’t found any parts for it).

If the monitor is still within the manufacturer’s warranty period consult the warranty statement as to what to do to make a claim for a warranty repair or replacement.

Yes, after all the steps taken I believe there is something faulty on the monitor board since both input connectors aren't working.

Thank you for your input, I ordered a new board and lvds cable to hopefully resolve the issue.

@cannd ,

The LVDS cable shouldn't be an issue as that cable connects the motherboard to the screen and you can get the OSD and the "no signal" message OK. Is there a HP logo as well that shows the first time it is powered on? If so this proves that the mainboard to screen via the LVDS is OK

Most probably there is a problem with the signal processing section on the motherboard.

No HP logo shows up, it goes straight to the "no signal message".

@cannd ,

Apologies I should have explained the reason for asking about the logo.

Usually with logos you get a full screen display, so if it was showing up with no display problems then this proves the power is OK, the screen is OK the LVDS cable is OK and that the mainboard is also OK up to a point.

The output from the mainboard is OK i.e. no problems with the logo and also the menu screens (generated by the embedded software in the mainboard) but in your case there is a problem with the input, which unfortunately is also on the mainboard.

I was just trying to save you the cost of a new cable when I think that it won't be necessary.

Cheers.

I’m guessing this would work if you unplug everything and plug it back in. I have (and HATE) this same monitor for this reason. When you have something plugged into Display Port, then switch to HDMI, the Display Port becomes “Inactive” and the only way to get it be “Active” again is by unplugging the power to the display for 30 seconds or so (give or take..) then plugging it back in. It’ll work then, but you have to do this each time. I just use the monitor to keep my papers from blowing away and bought a Samsung.

I had the same problem, I tried a variety of different cables, maybe that was the problem. Nope, have to unplug the power EVERY SINGLE TIME. I think I am going back to my Lenovo screen.

If you have a Lenovo ThinkPad you probably have an update that needs to be installed.

Search Lenovo Vantage, check for updates, and install the updates.

I have the exact same problem. 32 inch HD monitor. Black screen. I use a dock station and the new HP monitor is recognized but only has a black screen aside from the menu which seems to work normally. The unit is new, out of box.
