Kenmore is a popular appliance brand commonly sold by Sears, but Sears does not manufacture any of the appliances themselves. Instead, they source that out and have other manufacturers make their appliances for them. Kenmore refrigerators are made by a variety of different manufacturers including LG, Electrolux, GE, and Whirlpool.

Why is my 3 year Kenmore refrigerator not cooling correctly?

My 3 year old Kenmore door in door refrigerator is not cooling to the right temperature. Both the freezer and refrigerator. My “mr fix it, mechanic” dad has done everything he can think of. Cleaned all fans/coils, underneath also, removed all panels, defrost, looked for ice build up, etc and it's still not working.

Hi @brittney012515 ,

What is the model number of the refrigerator?

Is the compressor running all the time trying to cool down the fridge compartments?

par

Jayeff, the model number is 795.51833.412. I don't believe the compressor is running all the time. The freezer temp is at 32 and the refrigerator is warmer than that but not completely off.

par

Jayeff, Im not sure about the compressor but the fan in the back top of the freezer is always running.

Compresor is not working. What is the reason?

Hi @brittney012515 ,

Check that the compressor - part #307A machine parts diagram is running and also if it is warm or hot to the touch if it is.

If the compressor is not running and if it is cold then there may be a problem with the run capacitor - part #410g/h machine parts diagram or perhaps the compressor motor or the control board.

If the compressor is running and warm or hot there may be a problem with the sealed system. Either a blockage, a faulty compressor or a lack of refrigerant. Check for any oily residues on the condenser coils (near the compressor) or below the compressor which may indicate that there is a leak.

Also check if the evaporator unit behind the panel inside the freezer compartment is icy cold with the compressor running (0 deg. F). Don’t let your fingers get stuck to the coils, use cotton gloves if you go to touch it, just in case.

If it is not icy cold then there is a problem with the sealed system.

Due to the environmental regulations regarding the handling of refrigerant gases, the sealed system will have to be checked by a licenced refrigerator repairer. They can test the pressures in the sealed system to determine what and where the problem is.

Here we are in our third year of owning the warranty and having the same problem. The computer has to to be regularly updated according to the tech that was at my home last year. Mind you Im less then a year out and and my computer needs to be updated once again. And once again I am in a situation with losing 400+ in food
