Can the Ram be upgraded on the MacBook Pro 13" NON touchbar A1708?

Hey guys, I recently found out that with a special adaptor, I can upgrade the SSD on the MBP 13'“ no touchbar A1708. I ordered the adaptor and since I am opening it up I wanted to know if the ram is soldered on as well.

I cannot seem to find a concrete answer on this because it always leads me to the 2017 WITH touchbar. I know that on the touchbar model everything is soldered on, does anyone know for sure if the ram is soldered on for the NON touchbar 2017 model?

Thanks

In case you were wondering, here is the adaptor I purchased to upgrade the SSD: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/NVMe-M-2-NGFF-SS...

The RAM is soldered! What you bought with the system is all you’ll get! ;-{

Be careful with this M.2 adapter. As these have just come onto the market for this series there is no track record on them yet. The older retina series (2015 and older) also had these adapters. Many where just junk!

Part of the problem is the folks that create these don’t always understand what Apple is expecting and assume just any M.2 SSD will work, and lastly the quality control or warranty is just not there!

Thanks for the heads up. I read on a couple different forums, including ifixit that this adaptor worked well without any overheating or sleep issues. I figure for $15 its worth a shot to try it out. I will let you know how it goes!

You can upgrade the ram up to 16GB ram. If you don't know how to micro solder, you will need to hire someone to do it for you.

Sadly its just not economical to replace the RAM chips and people just don't have the skills to do it. We are not brain surgeons!

As far as using an M.2 SSD in this series. If you take the time to read through some of the posts here you'll see there have been many problems with these adapters and M.2 SSD's.

Don't get me wrong! I personally love the M.2 SSD when used in a standard PC. I have a Threadripper system which I've been building for a while and I have a RAID'ed M.2 SSD setup which is blazingly fast!

The rub here is the Apple interface is not directly compatible with the M.2 SSD's. Besides some fit issues with some SSD's with the adapter, Apple has some additional I/O lines which the M.2 does not have.

I'm fully aware you can get this to work but as soon as you stress it you'll encounter issues! I don't play Russian roulette as you could end up being hurt.
