When removing the speaker, i didn’t notice the power button cables were stretched across the front , and pulled the cables out of the button. i need to get the button out to re-solder the cables, but don’t want to damage the button any further. how does it come out?

It doesn’t get into replacing it or fixing things when things go wrong. Checkout Page 60 for the details on taking the speaker out.
OK, what to do??
You’ll need a heat gun to carefully heat up the case around the bottom to soften the glue. Be careful! As you don’t want to over heat things melting the plastic button case in the process! With the button off, you should be able to replace the wires and you’ll need to splice in the connector on the other side. If you can’t do this you may want to find someone with the tools and skills. You might be able to get a replacement button salvaged from a parts system.

I was able to apply heat and pry it out with a spudger. The wires are torn and if I desolder the re-solder the cable will be too short.
I think I'm in the market for a new power switch assembly, but cannot find one. If you can locate one, please send me a link.
I think you are over thinking this.
I would locate some wire that's the same gage (multi strand) and use it to solder onto the buttons solder pads. Then mount the button back and with the long leads twisted together like the original was feed the wires to the speaker shell.
Now with the power button cable end you still have plug it in on the power supply route the wires to the speaker untwist the wires so you can first slide on some heat shrink tubing of the correct size over one wire from each end. Now stager the cuts of the wires so the splice joints are not on top of each other. Solder them together and sleeve them with the heat shrink and use your heat gun at a low setting - Done!
Sadly, I can only find the 2017 button I'm not sure if the wires are longer or not 2017 27" iMac Power Button/w Casing and its out of stock!
So I think you'll need to bite the bullet here patching up your current cable.
