First generation Bose SoundLink Mini released on July 1, 2013. The device weighs 1.5 pounds and has a Bluetooth range of 30 feet.

Replaced my battery, however, all LED lights are now illuminated

After some quick diagnostics resulting from a battery that would no longer charge (flashing red power LED) when charging adapter connected, I figured the battery was shot and would no longer charge as the voltage was likely below the system threshold.

After installing a new battery ordered from ifixit, all of the LED lights come on. When I plug in the power adapter, the battery does not appear to be charging and ll light remain illuminated until I remove the battery.

@codyandresen have you double checked your work? Everything properly connected? Wiring looks okay etc.?

All work has been checked and properly connected. I'm wondering if this issue is due to a malfunction with a component on the PCB?

I have 2 Soundlink Mini I series. The battery light was blinking red non-stop when I tried to charge both units. When I used "replacement" batteries, all the lights came on even after charging all night. I saw a video on how to reset the Soundlink Mini by pressing the mute button for 10 seconds. Then both of the Soundlink Minis went back to the red battery light flashing. This is the second set of replacement batteries I have tried.

Hello friends,

I had the identical error with my BOSE SoundLink Mini.

After a time out for about 2 years in a drawer, the device did not come around.

I also invested in a new battery. You can save that. It will not work !

In my opinion, the problem is due to the firmware, as I tried some tests with the original battery and the repurchased battery.

I did not find any way to reactive the device from USB side to flash the Firmware or get a life-signal.

Unfortunately, there is no firmware support from the manufacturer.

Therefore, I do not believe in a solution to our problem ...

Since I really appreciate the size format of the device when camping, I took a pragmatic approach.

Some of you may curse me for this ;-) !

I removed all boards from the device and installed another mainboard from our chinese friends. (Google: xh-a153)

I converted the USB port from the original board to a charging port.

The holder of the 18650 cell I worked on with the DREMEL so that it can now even be easily exchanged. (In case of a two year timeout again...).

The China board is with about 5 watts a little weak on the chest, but from the sound for background music at the barbecue perfectly fine.

It also fits well, as we say in good old Germany, like "wie d´ Faust auf´s Aug!". It sits so tight that nothing rattles or affects the sound.

Many greetings and have fun tinkering.

I bought some faulty soundlink mini 1s and established all lights on with a charged battery indicates a faulty main PCB.

Investigating my board there doesnt seem to be any obvious shorts or damage so anyone capable of fixing this would have to be capable of doing board level repair.

So it's just a really expensive paperweight if you get the all lights on issue? I replaced my battery when the power light was blinking red and now the new one just has all the lights stay on.

Are you telling me it's a goner?

par

i have the same problem replaced battery and the blinking red light is still on

par

same. wish there was something else I could try.

I'm having the same exact problem. I thought it was the replacement battery and replaced it with another new one! Didn't help. Looks like I'll have to go back to listening to the Anker speaker I picked up. Unfortunately, the sound quality

isn't even close.

There is a short on the pcb. It is power cycling. That's why its blinking instead of solid red. Aka not charging. You will need professional repair service.

Having the same issue with Soundlink mini 1. After reading these comments I've come to the conclusion that a new battery was not the answer.

Try resetting the speaker with the mute button and see if it fixes the issue:

  • Connect the speaker to power
  • Press and hold the Mute button for 10 seconds. The LEDs will flash briefly.
  • Press the Power button to turn the speaker back on

If you are still getting the same LEDs illuminated, and can't get the system to power on properly after this reset, it could be a miscommunication between the LEDs and the battery.

I attempted a rest as you describe with the power charger cable attached to the speaker. After holding the Mute button for 10 seconds, the lights flash, the speaker makes an audible noise that the power cable is attached and the the power LED flashes red rapidly.

Any other thoughts or advice based on this diagnostic test?

@codyandresen If the light blinks red in about 90 seconds after battery insertion, then it could be the battery voltage too low.

par

I have replaced the battery with a new one ordered from iFixit, so this is likely not the case. My original battery was behaving this way, so I ordered the new battery to remedy the problem...

@codyandresen - I have the exact same issue too

par

All the LEDs are just on. I've done the reset. Yet all that happens when connected is that it goes to the rapid red blinking. When I lift it off the dock or disconnect it - all the LEDs light up again.

Press the sound mute button for 10 seconds *while the sound mini link is NOT plugged in*.

Worked for me.

After replacing the battery, the consumption is 110mA; when you hold down the Mute button for 10 seconds, the charging current increases to 660mA. If you release it, the current drops to zero and the red LED flashes. I have two of these speakers. I will be very grateful if someone dumps the working firmware and I will try to disassemble the device and flash rom ic on it.

New battery yielded same results as mentioned. Sounds like I wasted money on a new battery. I will try the last comment to reset when not on charge. Next will be the least favorable idea- me singing.

That’s a great way of repurposing a defective speaker 🙂

Thank you for sharing it !

In my case, I had similar issues, I found another soundlink mini for 40€, disassembled both and did a cross test (switching each part to see which one caused the issue).

At the end, the main board was the problem, I found another one around 40€ on AliExpress, pretty expensive but now I have 2 working units
