GPU heatsink black or burned

Block Image

I opened up my imac to see why it was not powering on. When I disassembled the heatsinks, I found that the GPU heatsink is black from under. Does it mean that the GPU is burned out is the reason for it not turning on whatsoever.

That is a tell-tale sign the GPU chip has failed (shorted)

Also I found that a few pins in the cpu socket were SLIGHTLY bent, so i aligned them back . Is it okay?

So the CPU was also bad? Be very careful! as this pins are like a bent paper clip one to many bends it snaps! One bend is about it before it goes.

Sadly, once the socket is gone that's the end of the logic board.

@danj So, if I bake the gpu at 200 degree celcius, could it revive the shorted GPU?

par

@btwtg - Cooking your GPU after it has shorted out won't fix it. As they say you can't un-break an egg.

@danj I've tested the PSU and it reads 12 V and 5.5V with diagnostic led #1 on.

I've even baked the GPU but it didn't help. CPU socket and CPU are fine with no missing/damaged resistors. So, do you think the problem is in the Logic Board or GPU. It would be very helpful if you can give me the schematics for this model.

thanks!
